I'm into my ZT 230 for,,, all up, 36K. 28K for the boat, another couple of K for finding a shoal at 40 mph (plus the insurance part of that navigation blunder) and another 5k for paint...I loved the base ZT graphics, but hated the black on blue more. I had the boat painted blue, kept the white bottom and deck, over this past winter. She'll be out of paint late this week.
My navigation blunder resulted in limited seat time last summer, and as this is my first boat, seat time is key. She's rigged with a 6.2 MPI, Bravo 1 pumping out on a Mirage Plus 23. The lake closest to me, is busy on the weekends so by mid afternoon you'll have rollers coming at you from all directions in certain parts of the lake. Other areas are as predictable as turning on a faucet and having water flow. In the heat of the summer, and humid conditions, one minute will be sunny and sweltering with a nice 3 to 4 inch chop, and 10 minutes later the skies will be black and you're running into 2 foot swells.
I know my prop is not right, to optimize the boats performance, but I don't know yet what will work best. I have begun establishing a good working relationship with a new marine service facility in the area..the owner presenting himself as quite knowledgable. (his toys of choice are a Progression and a Magnum) So the early part of this season is dialing in the boat. What is important to me is not so much the absolute last mph the boat is capable of but getting very close to that and have the boat as predictable and consistent as possible.
So back to the assessment of the ZT...and remembering I have a half a season of experience in my pants seat... for me this is a good starting place. I know the boat will demand that my skill level rise to it's limits. I know the boat will unlikely kick me in the ass and get me in serious trouble, but she sure is gonna tell me I made a mistake...in no uncertain terms. I know the boat wants, needs to be driven, and she has little patience for a candy ass wuss who backs out at the first sign of a challenge. This fulfills my needs for the time being.
Everyone I talk to, tell me this is a "go fast" boat. I don't quite agree with that. It's a 22 foot bowrider that looks pretty good, not a 38 or 42 foot Donzi, Fountain, or Formula. Only regret I have...it's a bow rider, not a long deck, but that's the price I pay for having a couple of beer and then going to the boat store.
Her name is "Blew by You". Yeah there are faster boats on the lake, but I've no doubt there are a bunch of Baja guys who will realize the name fits, by the end of this coming season.
I like my ZT.
Sorry if I seem long winded, but I was up looking at the boat yesterday and there is still ice on the lake....the itch is strong.
