2009 C-Hawk/Checkmate Poker Run

Hey, I know it's early start talking about it. I can't help to think of just how sad a turnout that it was this year. It is my first year doing this but I will be back every year from now on. Anyone that did not go missed a great time and the boating is spectacular! If I lived closer I would do it more often. Missing Coast Gaurd festival is well worth it. Three boats and 10 people came from West Michigan and that is sad with the number of Checkmates that are here. This could easily be a 50+ boat event. Please help me figure out why there was only 14 Mates there???? I know money is a major issue with a lot of people, but a lifetime experience for under a grand?? The prize money is great and the hosts (C-Hawk and Checkmate) are first class all the way!!! I think with a little input from some board members this could be a big deal just like it should be.

Jeff I share your sentiments, in fact I almost started a thread
last week saying much the same. Even 30 'mates at this event
would rock! 14 is, like you said, sad! Last year ('07) was my
first to the cmpr and I too intend to participate every year!

Your missing a good time people, let's make the '09 run a big deal:thumb:

This is a great event, we missed going and seeing all of our Checkmate friends. I wanted to tow our 'mate out to get more time in the beautiful area the run is held.
First class people, first class facilities, great boating atmosphere. Well worth any amount of time, effort , and money to get there and feel welcome and have a great time.
This run is one of the great "perks" of owning a Checkmate !

It is a great time and I'm going next year for sure. When else can you see 15 other boats like your own popping out of the water in 5 foot swells like some kind of flying fish. It's absolutly nuts when your taking off and all these boats are right there with you jumping all over. My wife and I are going to Lake Erie Saterday which will be fun but it wont be the same. Mabey someone should do a poker run or get together on a lake that the smaller outboards can handle along with the larger boats. I'd love to see about 20 Enchanters,Pulsars,Trimates and all the others out at one time. I've heard people talk about getting 20' checkmates out to Kellys Island but I'm not taking mine out there unless i'm with someone whos willing to get tossed out the boat.

HEY DD,I've been thrown from a boat when do you want to go!I've taken my starflite over to PIB a couple of times.Went over with water conditions anywhere from 1-5 footers.Thought about heading over to Kellys Island on open house friday but didn't.

Once again, Maybe next year I have a boat thats needed!!!!!!!!:cheers

I had a test that I could not miss. It is only offered 2 times a year. I will be there next year for sure. I think it will be 8 hours but it will be awesome. In my area I think that their are about 14 checkmates that are 21-27' long. It is pretty cool. I will convince them to make it as well. Any ideas on the date????

Jason

Trying to schedule to get the most people there, I would think either the last weekend in July, or more likely the Second weekend in August. The last weekend in July is probably not good due to Cristmas in July at PIB. The fist weekend in August is Coast Gaurd festival in Grand Haven and Bud Bash at Higgins Lake. We are trying to get the most people there with Checkmates at one time. I would love to see the second weekend in August if it would work well for everyone else.

Last weekend in July would be better or first weekend of august. 2nd weekend of august is way to busy for most of our group.

I agree with ONTHEHAMMER about dates I would love to go again but wife always LOVES Coast Guard & am open any weekend but 1st weekend in Aug. & also have many Checkmate's that will come. C-Hawk/checkmate does AWESOME job on this event-Keep it up !!!!!!

Last wknd of July is tough on the lake because Christmas- in-July on South Bass is HUGE tourism wise. There is a LOT of traffic on the water. With the large group interested from MI. having such a strong connection to the Coast Guard Fest up there would pushing it back even 1 more wk be possible? Although, that gets real close to the start of school for some, too. Just curious. Also, I have taken my Pulse 185 from the bay to Kelleys several time (and probably will on Labor Day weekend), it's no big deal as long as you manage the wash of the ferries.

Make it happen

If moving this event back 1 week will help to have a better turnout
then I'm for it, I should be able to make it work. Who else?

The idea is definitely for a better turn out. So everyone let me know and I am checking with the guys around here to make sure it will work too. Seams that is the best date to attract the guys from west michigan.

Date For 2009 Poker Run.......

It looks like they are going with July 25 th ( last saturday in July )....for the the Poker Run. Alot has to do with open dates @ Lyman Harbor plus making it work for as many people or groups of people as they can. So ......what you guys think ? This isn't set in stone but at least they are giving everybody plenty of notice ! We don't go to PIB for run .......so don't see how that would be an issue. But if anybody wants to go out to PIB friday or sunday it will surely be plenty of stuff going on ! Please express how the date works or doesn't for you and your group of people , Kip.
