21' Pulsare/Starflight 225HP speeds/setup?

BADBK

Well-known member
Got 77.3MPH GPS outta my setup today, thought I might see a bit more than that after I put on a 10" J/P and had my 26P Trophy Plus worked into 27P balanced/blueprinted light lab finish.... Still had over a half tank of gas though.

Mine:
10" setback, 26P TP worked to 27 b&b light lab finish 77.3MPH @ 5700RPM 87 degrees, humid as fark.

Still ain't bad, but anyone crack 80mph with STOCK 225HP?

If you had the choice, 300x/250xs/or simonize 3.0L EFI?

I think thats about what jup got out of his old black one with about the same set up. And I believe the only pulsare to break 80 with 225hp was the one that a 10 inch pad added to the bottom! If I remembered right?

speed with a high 5

i prolly have the slowest right now until i get a different speed prop... went skiing this past thursday and saw just over 63 with my high 5 prop... next week or the following back i'll post again :( ... i'll be working with the guys from merten marine here in oshkosh so i'm sure i'll be in good hands once we start playing with props.

Traiter!!! ;)

Actually, have you seen the new Yamaha F300? It's lighter than the 300 HPDI, but 4-stroke. That's pretty amazing if you ask me. The F300 went from 5.3 liters to 4.2 liters and lost 300 lb.

I hear ya, not tryin to buy a new mota tho... would sell the 225 EFI to get a 300x/250xs or simonize my 225 into a 300 for ~$2K....

My insurance is less than half of what it was with the 3hundo hangin on back now though which is pretty awesome.

simonize that 3.0, heads, poppet, diverter, tuner and if you want that much more send your block have hime bore it to the 3.1 L reprogram ecu and lighter flywheel. can you say 90+

Josh, you need more setback than 10". I would at least add Bob's 2" spacers to your current setup. It's a very easy install and can easily be removed if you don't like it. Heavy boats require torque to keepem movin. I would "Simonize" your 3.0 liter 225. It's alot less money than buying a 300X or XS. Releave the exhaust, put spacers to raise up your vent on your cowl to let the motor "breath" more, intake spacer, lightened flywheel, maybe try a Sportmaster lower as you're right on the edge of the realm where the Sportmaster begins to work......

Yup, 77.0 MPH with 13.5" of setback, bone stock 225 XRi, Trophy Plus 26, full tank of gas, two adults, cooler, anchor and gear!! I'm sure I could've snuck up on 80mph had I run the boat light on fuel and by myself...

She's running pretty good with only 10" setback right now. I was going to just put a 300x tuner in it this year until i find out it's not a super simple process... So, only thing I will be doing this year now is the cowl mod in the next couple days.

Reason I ask about simon mods or new mota is the already mediocre fuel economy the 225 EFI gets, I'll have to run premium with mods or 300x/250xs but how much worse is my modded 225 going to be on fuel than a new mota?

The boat is on Craigslist now, so if it sells it sells, if not I'll be pressing ahead. Make a few $$ and go bigger for sure this time... or I'm dead set on 90+.

are u guys including the amount of "set-back" in the jackplate as well or just the setback brackets themselves???

Huh?

The front to back edge of my jackplate is 10", hence 10" setback... I'm confused what you were asking but I hope that answers it. :thumb:
