2100 BR Prop Question, Again

The Allison style plate might be a good idea on a boat with the propshaft even or above the bottom of the boat. Much lower and I think that it would cause way too much drag. A great idea, in the right application. Skip

It's the wrong application but it won't cause drag, he should be running his motor quite high. Trim tabs are the wrong application too. Most of you guys have just given really bad advice on a simple setup issue.

Checkmates and Set Up

There is no one setup that works for all applications. If you want top speed, you set it up different than if you want to pull skiers and wake boarders.
Every boat, even by the same manufacturer is a little different. Different molds, different length of time it sat in the mold, humidity, etc. No 2 boats are exactly the same. A Checkmate is a very nice semi massed produced boat. There will be difference on how each one runs. What works on one boat, might not work on the next boat. I have been playing with these things for over 45 years and I have learned to listen and not make blanket statements about what works and what does not work. I know what works on my boat, but, that does not mean that it will work on some other persons boat.

If you want the coolest boat on the block, just buy a 21' Schiada and bolt a 300 or 400 Merc on it. Boat, Motor and Trailer will only set you back about $100K or more.
If you want a go fast V bottom, A Tuff 21 would be a nice ride. You could probably slide into a new one for around $70K.
If you want a very nice, all around boat, that can do most everything, a Checkmate is one the very few boats to choose from. The best part is that it is sort of affordable. For the money, I think that it might be the best option out there. Skip

I cant get the RX4 26P to turn much past 5200 rpm. Raising the nose too much to get her spinning causes un-driveable chine walk. I really like how the prop feels and works except she is not spinning up to optimal RPM. 71mph and hanging on for dear life. I might try and drop down to a 25p or even a 24p but not sure the boat likes this prop at high speeds. Pretty amazing the prop will push the boat that fast at such a low rpm.
Best so far is the 27p raker II. 74.9mph with some walk. The 25P and 26P Trophy Plus both are maxing out at the 6000 rpm ceiling and like to blow out when taking off. 68 mph spinning too fast.
So I am considering a 28P Trophy Plus, a 25p or 24P RX4 or maybe try a Bravo I if I had any idea what pitch to get.
I am starting to think that 75mph is all she might have. The 27P Raker II is turning around 5900 but I need to lift the nose quite a bit to get her from 68 to 75 and then she starts waking again. I just thought 80 was doable..lol.. Going fast is such an obsession...at least I can outrun the 70mph jetskis now!!
I am starting to think I should have put those solid mounts on when I repowered. Perhaps the motor is just twisting a little bit with the etec rubber mounts..I have heard this may contribute to this motor walking around.
Thanks again for the thoughts/comments. Every bit helps!

Ya, the Bravo XS would be interesting to try, Mercury Racing recommends going up 1 pitch compared to the Tempest / Trophy to maintain RPM. Plus, you might be able to run the Bravo a little higher. (you may not be running it high enough now if you're chine walking around 70)

Definitely try the Trophy 28, and adjust the vent holes. Some say to plug two opposing ones, adjust if it slips.

You should have no problem getting upper 70s while jumping out of the hole. Would love to hear how the Bravo works, I'd try a ProMax if you can.

The Mercury Racing comment section has some great advice:

The Etec is a great motor but it will not match the top end of a Merc no matter what you do. This has been proven time and again on every hull. The guy I bought my 250 from had it on a Ranger. Never broke 70 once. Put on a 250 XS and hits 75 all day long.
On the other hand an Etec set up right will smoke a Merc out of the hole every time. I did considerable prop testing (dozen props). The big diameter 4 blades were the ticket. Trophy's all blow out on holeshot. Raker was a disaster, Renegade did not have enough cup. A 25p Rev4 was awesome. Worth a try on yours and should get you up to rev limit. Bravo another winner. The only 3 blade that worked was a Fury but had to be run an inch deeper that Rev4. It was a surprise because it is small diameter but had great holeshot and never blew out. Take all the Merc advice with a grain of salt and enjoy the Etec for what it is. Loved mine and didn't care that it could not keep up with the Mercs. Hope that helps.

You ran it on a 21 Pulsare? Says you had a Starliner in your bio, totally different boat. Although I agree on most of what you said, a Ranger and a Starliner are barges compared to a 21 Pulsare and prop dynamics would change. Boat should easily be high 70s.

According to a guy with a 21 Pulsare and a 225 HO, the Raker is his best prop. 28P. Claims it runs 81, but that seems fast.
