250 ProXS on a V-Mate II

I have a 25" Fury that I run on my 250 Etec/Starliner. It's a good prop, has less lift than a Trophy or Tempest yet just as fast. Steeper pitch, more like a 26. Some guys have seen big speed gains with them but not on my rig. Still the best 3 blade I have run.
The Rev4 has been my best prop by far on my rig. Fastest, smoothest, grippiest, best lift and great holeshot with enough ventilation. The right fit for the big power and the big honking Magnum gearcase..

Glad u like the rev4

What kind of speeds are you getting out of your starliner?

That hull has a stepped transom with no pad correct?

 I thought I saw a boat do 87...I did I did... Nice boat.. What is it again and how long..That's a rocket :bigthumb:

It's a 78 V-Mate II they made them from 76-79 i think... It's 17'4" Long 88" Beam 700lbs... Yeah it's a rocket and a blast to drive you can do a lot of stuff in this hull and it handles alot of water conditions very well. I will have more boats in the future but I'll never get rid of that one.

That's correct. Not the fastest design out there but makes for a fun way to haul 8 people around. :)

My dad is considering looking for one...what kind of speeds do you see with your setup?

What the heck, I might as well chime in on this since I rode in and drove kalugs22's v-mate II to 76mph on Sunday. The top speed is what it is, but what I found possibly just as impressive about this set-up is how the thing handles with a 500+ lb. outboard on it. I currently own a 2009 Pulsare 2100br (in background of 2nd photo on page 1) and a 1982 predictor, which I restored (see page 2 of restoration discussion), neither of these hulls compare in handling to the v-mate II style hull. I often wonder why this hull design was so short lived since it is obviously a performer.

A little off topic but kalugs22 and I grew up hearing about the v-mate's as ckaluger mentioned earlier, he and my dad bought two VM2's brand new in 77'. I can honestly say that some of my favorite memories from the nearly gone 2011 boating season was seeing the "old men" get behind the wheel of the v-mate II, make a few passes, and then pull back into the beach wearing that same *****ty grin as I'm sure they had 30+ years ago.

Bottom line, kalugs22 did one heck of a job on his restoration and has put in the hours and $$$ to figure out what set-up works best for him. I'm just glad that I get to be part of the test and tune crew and run it occasionally. Good work buddy.

Also has 6" notched transom.

I ran one time to limiter 25 Chopper II to 82. Hated prop and sold it.

Everyday and best prop 21 Trophy + runs low 60's at 6500 or so. I always have 4+ people and rarely push it past this. The few times by myself, hits limiter FAST right about 70.

Don't have a GPS speedo, the only # GPS'd was 82 with my father-in-laws hand held.

Mine runs 63 with a standard load and a 24 inch Raker. I think we were talking about the same thing as far as "notched" and "stepped" transoms. There is also a small step in the hull. Its an awesome all around/family boat, too bad they are kind of hard to find.

Yup, notched transom and small step in hull, and it does have a V-shaped pad like some of the bass boats but not a flat pad like most of the Checkmate outboards. It will never be as fast a Pulsare but is arguably better in the chop. Stepped hulls tend to pull the bow down at speed and therefore need a lot of help (setback/ bow lifting prop) to unwet the hull surface for speed. You can actually hear the hull let go.
The boat runs 70-72 mph gps with most of the props I've tried. I am sure I could tweak the setup and get more but I don't really care that much since I seem to spend most of my time just cruising with the family.

Is that the noise that sounds like a big piece of paper getting ripped when I get to a certain speed or hit a wake at just the right angle? The first few times I heard it I thought something scraped against the bottom of the boat.

I am thinking of how you hear water aerating under the hull and when the hull unwets it stops or at least gets much quieter.

Tell us about your setup. What is that Etec doing for you?

Mark, It's a 2008 225 HO. It's hanging on a 10" hydraulic "Altus" jackplate, which at full extension puts the nose cone 1.5" below the pad. It will run 74 mph (yes, on GPS... lol) at 6250 rpm (rev limiter) with a 24" Raker II. I also have a 26" raker that was worked by DAH that I bent on memorial day weekend. It would run 75.5 mph with that prop at about 6100 rpm. The fastest speed that I have seen is 77mph with an old over the hub exhaust SST in 29". The reason that I don't run that prop is because it slips horribly coming out of the hole, but once it's out it accelerates and handles like a dream. Even with that 29" I was still turning right at 5900-6000 rpm. I need to try a quality 3 or 4 blade 28 -30". The motor has plenty of torque and power for a big prop, but the only people around here that run e-tec's are the "ba$$-holes" and they don't like us too much. haha Hope this info is helpful. btw, I'm not sure what my slip #'s are but I'm sure I will find out.

HAHAHA... ya you will!

Actually your current prop is seeing 11% which is normal for that hull so I don't think you are going to raise any hackles. My 250 (non-HO) is the exact same motor with a 1.85 gearcase instead of 1.71. They are hard to prop because the case is 1/4" wider and most props blowout on breakover.
Are you happy with your Etec? The big ones are few and far between in our neck of the woods. I love the attention to detail under the cowl.

Yeah, I love my E-tec and all OMC's for that matter. If I were putting together a brand new rig I wouldn't even think twice about putting an E-tec on it. Might bump up to a 250 HO or a 300 though, but then again who wouldn't. haha... On my Predictor i have a 78' 140hp. I'm still playing with the set-up on it but I'm seeing some pretty respectable speeds. last time out I got to 67 mph with a worked omc silver streak in 23 pitch. It was singing at 6400 rpm though. The power to weight ratio of that motor is ideal for the short and narrow hull (in my opinion). I really think that I could see 70 mph with the right prop.
