251 audio system?

Check2k

New member
New to this forum and amazed by all the knowledge here. I'm redoing the audio system in my 251 and curious to see how some of you guys have it set up. Any pics? Thanks

I can't speak on a 251, but I just upgraded my 253 a little bit. 12 speakers in cabin isn't too much is it? lol

I am actually heading back down to the lakehouse this weekend to button it all up. I'll take some pics then. Pretty much, just use your imagination and don't be afraid to cut some holes!!

An update, took a look at the layout of my boat today. We are going to start under the rear seat. Two 7.7 or 8.8 jl audios will replace the existing speakers, and a 10" jl audio sub will be between them. Will build a box for it. Expect the amp to be in that same area. Will lose the cooler under the seat, but no big loss. That's as far as I've gotten with ideas, post more as they come.

Sorry, I completely forgot to post pics. I will have to try to upload them from my phone today. I miscounted, there are only 10 speakers in the cockpit (for now). I went with all Polk Audio DB series speakers. They are reasonably priced, sound great and are marine certified. Here is the run down,

4 6.5" 2 way speakers below the back seat. (Thinking about adding another 10" sub or two back there as well)

2 8" subs mounted between the oval storage cutouts in the side by the drivers and passengers seats. (These are Polk Audio MM series. Designed for free air and marine certified)

2 5.5" component set ups consisting of a 5.5" sub and a 1" tweeter cut into the fiberglass just to the left of the passenger seat and right of the drivers seat.

2 6.5" 2-ways in the cuddy, running off the deck.

1 12" sub in a sealed box mounted where the porta pot used to be.

Alpine digital media reciever. No need for a CD player anymore since everything I own is now on my iPhone. Plus the deck is Pandora ready. What made me go with Alpine is they have this cool little wireless marine remote now. It has a reciever that plugs into the back of the deck and it can read up to 100ft away. Plus the remote is waterproof and even floats!!! So it can go with my into the water for those hot summer day swims and I won't lose control of my music!!

I mounted my amps underneath the back seat on the back wall. I lost almost no storage space and they are hidden pretty well. So well infact that I couldn't get a good pic of them. They are both Memphis marine amps. One is a 5-channel running everything in the cockpit and the other is a mono running the single 12. I also switched the remote wires on the amps so I can turn off the single 12 in the cuddy for when I put my girls down for a nap up there. I can also turn everything off so the only thing that can be heard is the two 6.5's in the cuddy for when Me and Mama have a night alone sleeping on the boat and I can turn on some Barry White without disturbing anyone else in the cove (bow chicka bow wow!!).

I'll post pics later today. I'm at work and my government computer won't let me access my image hosting website.

That removable headliner piece right inside of your cabin door is a great place to hide/mount your amp. Thats where I mounted mine. I replaced the 6.5"s up in the front of the cabin with 10" kickers.Sounds much better!
