28P Trophy Plus = booooo

Well-known member
Put the trophy on last night and took er out today. Was pretty windy out and choppy, but got a few top speed runs in. My 25P Yami VMAX prop was running 74 with room left and the 28P TP could only muster 71 @ 5400/5500 RPM's. I thought the torque monster Yami 300 could twist it a little more than that, but I guess I was wrong...

Getting out of the hole I'd get maybe a whole bunch of prop slip? Rev'd from like 3500-5500 rpm's then settle back in 2 times or so everytime I planed out. Weird.

Anyone want a 28P TP? Gonna try out a 26/27P Tempest next I think...

Any info/advice/suggestions greatly appreciated.:thumb:

Oh, it was only 74 degrees out today... rough rough day.:D

A lot of people like the trophy plus but I hated it on my Pulsare/Promax. My 23" Tempest was much better out of the hole AND top end than the 25" Trophy Plus I tried.

What were you getting for R's with the Yami Prop???

Were you running the Trophy with or without the PVS plugs (4 small holes around the front of the hub)?

Plugs out, running 5400-5500 R's @ 71 MPH with the TP

Yami prop was spinning up to 5700 ish with a little left @ 74MPH.

I took the TP back off and put the yami on. Talked to Wildman and he said the 28 was a bit too much for the RPM's the yami is made for....

I would put the "full" vent plugs it...That motor doesn't need help spooling and is likely the reason why you got so much slip when planing off.

I had the same problem with my T-Plus and putting in the caps helped. It didn't totally get rid of the slip, but I kinda like a little anyway.

I would keep both props and get a hyd. slider and jack the motor way out/up. Then you will see some #'s!!!:eyecrazy::thumb:

The 28 Trophy prop is definitely a different breed from all the other Trophy props. I'm not familiar with the Yamaha's but maybe they perform better with a different prop ?! This is the thing about props you never know how they'll run till you try them. There are very few "identical" setups. Right now all we have in common is the hull. Motor, setback, height, probably weight distribution in the hull are all different.

Keep trying props. Anything you can get your hands on. You can easily get back what you paid for that prop.

Good Luck !

Yeah, I re-sold the prop for what I paid in 2 hours on S&F!! I also got to talk to a few guys that have been setting up VMAX Yami's for sometime now last night which should help immensly. Both dude's said for some reason the small wheel Merc props don't perform real well on the yami's... Looking for a VMAX 29P prop right now and a bit more setback.

I agree!!!

Well, I grew some balls, and had a few beers.... but all kidding aside, I got her out again today for 5 hours or so. Was able to drive through the chine walk after talking to several people and it's really a piece of cake. Got my speedo pegged @ 75, not sure how far it's off GPS, regardless, it's FAASSSST! And that's with the stock 25P T1 Yami prop. I sold teh 28TP and am deciding on a 27 or 29P Yami T1 prop to add to the collection... don't wanna go too big, but don't wanna go too small... maybe I'll get BOTH!

Anyway you look at it, I've been having a whole lot-o-fun!!!

Thanks for rubbing our noses in it. I'm just shoveling out from a 6" snow storm last night. LOL:brickwall::cheers:

At least I didn't take any pics.... wait maybe I did take one or two with my cell. My forehead is SUUUNBURNT right now.
