If you want your engine to last you must change your valves install new head gaskets. and I would recommend headers. If its a 5 psi kit they say you don't have to do anything but who knows how long it will run without problems

I have been running my 454 with procharger all season and havent had a problem with it and its all stock motor

headers are 1st on list will check into the price of doing the other upgrades and see if I can afford to do it all at once.Tell me the year of your engine hours on it when pro charger was put on and how about the extra power what kinda steering do you have? All the goodies if you dont mind mboger..thanks guys

I GOT A CUSTOMER 500+HOURS 5 PSI PROCHARGER 100% STOCK THE BOAT IS ON IT'S SECOND OWNER.
YOU DON'T NEED DIFFERENT VALVES OR HEAD GASKETS IF IT IS SET UP RIGHT...AND YOU DON'T USE CHEAP FUEL.YOU HAVE TO USE 92 OCTANE.

Jason,

What is the biggest HP you and your dad have put in a 280ZT? What kind of speed? How much faster of a hull is the 280ZT then a 300 (283)?

Thanx,
SCT

If its a 7 or more psi kit. forged pistons are a must, good rings valves must be changed, head gaskets, lock out distrutor advance, run a more suitable cam, roller rockers, install headers, forged steel crank, at least 7/16 rods or h-beam rods. theese are some of the major things one should do there are more. Magnun ,HO. and HP engines all have forged pistons, steel cranks and 7/16 rod bolts and would be good canidates for procharging. The more boost the more modifications you have to do. Or start from scratch and build a true blower motor

O.K.
Here we go. It really depends on how you run your boat. This determins how long it will last. I never hold mine wide open for more than 30 seconds. I wanted reliability. So I changed my head gaskets to Fel-pro marine. I was told that in stock form the gaskets would only last about 70 hrs. Sence I had the heads off I had Manely iconel exhaust valves installed. I put it back togather with arp head bolts.
My motor is a 454 mag efi, so I have forged rods, crank, pistons, 7/16 rod bolts.
the 300 hp 454 doesn't have these things and really is not a good engine to super charge. I know that people do but the engines usally let go. If you are getting a good deal on the pro-charger, then I would contact them and get the 3 1/2 pound pully, and don't stay in it for too long.
