454 rebuild help please!!

So i get my first Checkmate, 1987 Convincor I/O...bad motor and pre alpha outdrive. So i get my first Wellcraft, 1978 nova 250 offshore...new 454 and bravo one outdrive...does anyone want to buy a Wellcraft? I did the whole motor and outdrive swap and ran the boat for the first time and it started missing! Little did i know the motor had froze last winter and cracked under the intake, so now i have milky oil...the good news is i have another 454 block but need some help on what to do to it. Like stroke it 4.25" and make it a 505 or what, i need some help!! I am going to put aluminium heads, rpm air gap intake, and imco thumper headers but i dont want to go to wild with it...so if y'all could point me in the right way, please do thanx

i guess around $2,500.00...note: i have headers and intake and heads but what valves should i use in my heads, is stainless ok, i dont think i will supercharge this motor but...O and i would like to keep it 450-500hp i dont think that bravo1 will hang with much more than that and i dont have external steering

The best way to go on exhaust valves is a set of Inconel valves 270.00 Regular Stainless Steel will be fine on the intake side 150.00

Valves 450.00 Ballpark

I would really ditch the idea of a stroker kit and spend my money on a good roller cam set up unless you want to spend more money.

Roller cam Kit
Cam, lifters, springs, retainers, timming set, seals, and locks 1000.00

Roller Rockers 425.00
Push rods 40.00

We are already at a ballpark figure of 1915.00 and what kind of heads do you have exaclly and why are they bare.

a 4.25 stroke in a std 454 will not be 505, 482 @ std bore, have to bore thin to get there...489-496 about it..but would be a good deal as the torque goes up

Ok, no stroker but will the stock crank work and the heads will be built for what ever cam i get..heads are pulloffs a car my dad has not sure the brand.(i hope their Dart, yea right) The cam should be a solid or hydro roller and is one brand better than the other? Are the stock rods ok, i am going to bore it alittle and use flat tops.

Stock rods will be okay I would put new bolts in them and have them resized. The crank will be fine also, but you should have a steel crank if not you should get one.

Dont mess with a solid cam get a hyd. roller. Solid cams are good for racing but a hassel for normal use
