540 EFI Build-up Thread

Well hope that one works for you, I bought one of those this summer while playing with our EFI system, was a POS, would not idle below 1500 or so even with the ISC motor removed and plugged, tried and bunch of stuff...put the 1000 back on and was fine. I actually bought the last new one that accel had thru summit...they no longer make them according to accel, returned it and got $$$ back...so just a heads up and hope yours works better than mine, I see that that one is the later design as they had a early one that had 2 big rectangle butterflies and changed to the 4 barrel style...Good Luck Rob

Spoke with Bob Madera this afternoon and just sent him an updated Build Sheet for this motor. He was real excited about the build seeing as it will be involving the distributorless Holley sequential EFI system and the AFR 335 CNC heads. He said that it should be very deep into the 700's for horsepower. We shall see more next week! He said he will get some ideas on the cam & valvetrain together over the weekend.

Any updates. I can smell boating season approaching.
I picked up the shortblock components from the machine shop this past weekend as a matter of fact. The new block had to have the decks flattened, honed for proper piston clearance (.007" due to minimal block expansion and very large bore pistons), line hone because the factory mains looked quite rough. Installed full groove coated racing cam bearings, checked all crank, rod clearances. Probably did more machining than needed, but wanted to be SURE it was right. Ended up having to re-balance my crank too. Previous guy screwed the pooch on that one but it is all good now. Cranks are new machinist's specialty. Almost looks too pretty to be hidden inside...haha. Custom cam from Bob Madera is being ground as we speak.....and it is aggressive! Looking to start short block assembly this weekend. Will get some pics uploaded then. Shaping up to be an absolute beast for something that doesn't need a respirator on top.

After receiving the valvetrain parts form Bob and the EFI system from Alex Haxby in a few weeks, my credit card will be crying in a melted heap for sure! Haha.....all in the budget though.

Finally recieved the rest of my parts from Bob. Now that i have rest of head components, the heads will be assembled this week. Heavy engine assembly should start next weekend since my college finals are tuesday and i will have free time once again.

Recieved the cam, distributor gear, high rpm hydraulic roller lifters, Isky tool room springs, Afr inconel valves and stainless intakes, Isky lightweight steel retainers and 10 degree locks. My gaskets all showed up two weeks ago from summit. Went with Cometic MLS Marine gaskets for heads. Should be good.

Cam specs are below. It is a firing order swap cam also and is very strong.
