87 predictor chine walk

Hmmmm. When you wiggle the engine does the cable move with it? You shouldn't have much play with a new helm.

The parts needed on the engine side will be a second tube and possibly the steering arm.

Check with the place you got the steering from. Will yours accept a second cable?

I have these parts. They fit the V6 engines. I am not sure about the inline.

I have recently installed a rotary helm single cable tho.I do have some parts left over from a 200 venom dual cable set up but idk if any of it will bolt up on the merc.I did some across a duel cable for an xs 1500 on eBay. Is that kinda what ya had in mind.I also still have the helm for that setup and I know its a NFB not sure about the single...

Posted twice...sry...the cable at the engine seems to be OK but I do hear some slop in the helm.the tube I've got looks identical to yours. I apreciate all the time and help from all u guys I've had many boats over the years but this is my first screamer...lol. mabey one day I'll get her above 50.lol

When I first restored my Enticer I installed a new teleflex single cable rotary helm. It was sloppy at the helm and I spent a lot of time trying to chase down the "chine walk" problem. Seat time wasnt doing it. Once I broke out the checkbook and installed the seastar pro hydraulic system and solid mounts, all of my problems went away.

At the very least a dual cable system and some solid mounts will cure the "chine walk" blues.

I have a Dual Ride Guide system on my Vmate I . This is what you need for the old inlines . I have mine set up as a push pull system . There is no slack in the steering and the boat stays nice and straight at speed .

that's a nice set up...how does that xs push her?

I haven't had this boat passed 50 MPH . I had the power head rebuilt and was breaking in the motor at the end of last summer . So I haven't used any of the bigger props that I have for it yet . Hopefully this summer ill have the time to get out and see what she can really do . I have this boat set up the way it was brand new in 1975 when it left Action Marine .

I have a 86 enticer and it chine walked some kinda bad raised the motor and it got better then put a 8in jack plate on it and now she flies so straight but also had solid motor mounts installed made a world of difference for me! I can run 69 with no prob and cable steering!

When I bought my Predictor it had a locked up steering cable. I replaced it with a single cable and it had chine walk as you described over around 50. The helm also had room for a second cable to be installed, so I installed a second cable and it really helped out.

When I build my Eluder up, I just went with a new helm and rack and pinion double cable system and don't have chine walk issues on that boat at all.

Your account and my experience is why I think "chine walk" is not real. Sloppy steering is real. "Chine walk" is just a symptom of the motor flopping around.
