Just got my resin, glass, etc from us composites today + my full face respirator....$1k poof! Been trying to finger out a good game plan for the lipless splashwell and a "better" transom design. I should have the splashwell done this weekend and hopefully the transom cut out, maybe even glassed in.

Cool!! These projects add up quickly!!! Did you end up with oak or fir for the transom?

Oh yeah, outta go pick that stuff up too... undecided which one yet. Probably go with the best oak they have.

These "honey-do's" in preparation for the next baby are really cutting into the resto time... always somethin'.

Well, decided on AC fir for the transom, have it cut out, glued together getting close to putting it in. First coat with epoxy/acetone soaking in curing right now before I en-capsule it. The lipless splashwell has been keeping me busy, and well behind the power curve... got it glassed in, still need to do 2 more 17 oz layers inside and 3 more outside + more grinding I'm sure. Fun.

How do you like the epoxy resin so far? I like the lipless spashwell much better. Looking good!!:thumb:

I have only ever used epoxy so I really can't compare, but I can tell you cab o sil is absolutely amazing compared to chopped strand!

The lipless was more for functionality than appearance, I hated how the top two transom bolts came through into the splashwell. Just another point for water to seep in, plus I'm sure the shoddy transom job/filled with hull n deck putty through it is the culprit for all the stress cracks in the splashwell corners. Still have a lot of grinding and glassing to do, but it will look and be 100% structurally better when done.

Looking good BK:bigthumb: I really like the lipless splash well. I was considering doing it to mine for the same reasons-stress cracks from the mounting bolts.

Awesome project and look forward to watching it all come together:cheers:

Windshield is off, quick and easy luckily... won't be going back on ;)

Too many irons on the fire for sure.

She works haaard for the money, sooo hard for the money.... anyway, life events have been taking precedence, but I've been able to get to the garage for some work time. Good to take your mind off other things...

Forgot to snap pic of transom, but transom is in, cab-o-sil'd between outer skin, 3 staggered layers of 17 oz cloth tying it in.

This pic show's transom in, new transom knees and horizontal support almost ready to go in, floor is 3/4 done, kinda cruising along.

I even had a little helper for a little bit!

Progress is looking good:bigthumb: You really are moving right along!

How does your gas tank mount? I ask because mine and most of the others I have seen have the brackets that screw to the deck. How will yours mount with the higher stringers?

BTW... that's the best kind of helper, even though there usually isn't much helping going on:D

My tank didn't have any supports to screw in and I wanted to make the stringers taller to eliminate water getting basically anywhere. It will be glassed in all 4 sides and have a top hold down/support bracket made. Should be good when done.... only time will tell.

Sounds like it should work. Does the tank sit right on the hull of the boat or is there something that goes between as buffer? Sorry for all of the questions... I'm done now:D

I don't know what type of foam you're using, but if water is a concern you could always use a weeping tile type setup as a buffer between the foam and the hull. I'm sure they make something specifically for boats that has a different name, but weeping tile is the best I could come up with. Just a thought...

love the higher stringers,in a few years down the road I will proboble do the same, when I have to redo my floor, looks like your really doing a good job.
