96 219 Persuader

anchors

New member
Hi all. New(to me) 219 Persuader owner here. 454Mag, Bravo1 leg, mirage25p prop, trim tabs, Captains call exhaust. Great boat just needs some new skins on the seats, enginge hatch has already been done.
Does anyone know what this setup should do for top speed? The wot is about 4900rpm. The best I have seen so far is about 58mph gps. The speedo hasn't been working for a bit but i think i have that fixed now. When I first got the boat i didn't have a gps but the speedo was working the best i saw on speedo was about 75mph. Are the speedometers generally this far out? I know it takes some finesse to get this boat up and running full out. It seems to take too long to get up onto plane. I have been wondering if I should make a prop change, any suggesttions? Thanks JP

i would think your faster than 58, is that WOT what the motor says it should run or is it what you run with the prop you have on it? what rpm do you actually turn?
my guess would be around 65 mph and yes speedos are usually way off!

4900 rpm is probably where you need to be, if you drop back to a 23p you are going to turn to many rpm. Does your boat have trim tabs, you can use them to help get on plane. Also look at wieght distribution and see if you can move some around or out.

thanks for your replies
yes i do have trimtabs they are all the way down when i start out
the rpm is 4900 with that prop
i also think that is about where the 454 should be for wot but i'm not sure i haven't found any info for the wot on the motor

Just wondering, do you have the trim set up right?
My 94 219 persuader with a 350 and no trim tabs has run gps 63 with a 23 mirage.
But i know that when i have my trim down some, I loose a lot of mph.
Mine runs fastest with a rooster tail thats about 4-5 feet off the water and pretty long, if your not seeing a lot water in w rooster tail, I would check to see if your limiter switch is allowing you to trim up enough.
You do have to be careful and have a machinac set it up because if you go too high you damage the drive, but I know that with mine, If the drive is tucked down a little, I loose 3-5 mph easily.

Something doesn't sound right. That hull with a 25p mirage @ 4900rpm should run 70mph + if it has the standard B1 gear ratio (I think 1.5).

My 454 mag has a soft rev limiter that comes in right around 4900rpm. MK told me they can be vary by 100 or so rpm. Sounds like you're running to the limiter and making at least descent power.

As '94 said, trim can knock you down a bit but it doesn't pull my boat down 15mph.

That boat should pop out of the water with that prop. Partially clogged injectors are a common thing with those motors - but if you're hitting 4900rpm, it still doesn't explain only running 58mph. If you have any lean backfires - I'd say you're clogged up for sure.

Are you sure it's a 25p mirage? See if you can use your drive S/N to find the ratio. Not sure what else to check...

I've got a 1993 219 persuader w/ a 454 and trim tabs
my motor has a small blower w/ carb, not injectors
I run a lab finish bravo 1 26 pitch and hit mid 80's at 5500 rpm
I would think you could safely run more rpm's for more power
not sure how much you would gain with more prop pitch but worth
a try. Just be careful, the persuader loves to chine walk a bit
