97 Convincor 220 review

I have only had my 220 out a couple times since we got it. It is my first I/O. It has a stock 454 carb with headers and aluminum intake added ,Bravo one with a 23P mirage.

This boat feels very light in the water. With two of us it gets up real quick. With a full load it still gets up on the water in a reasonable time. With a full load I was seeing 60-62 mph. I think I could turn a 24P. It is very sensitive to trim. I give it a couple taps and thats all it needs. It handles very well in turns.

As for the boat itself, the cockpit has plenty of room. I did notice though that the floor is mounted a bit higher than in the 25' boats. Sitting next to a 251, the hulls and bolster tops are at the same level. My floor however, is about 6-8 inches higher. This makes the bolsters much shorter feeling. I am 6'1" so I am towering over the boat when I stand up. I suspect they did this so they could keep the full width of the floor.

The cabin area has decent room in it. There is not enough for me to sit up straight but I can manage.

All in all I am happy with it. I was looking for a 25' but I could not pass up the price of this one.
 
I've never driven a 220 Convincor but always thought they looked like they could tear up the waves for a 22' boat. Pretty good ride, Matt?

I thought it handled very well. I didn't get to take it out in the bay yet though. Hopefully this weekend. It cuts the wake really well but still feels like a light boat.

Love that boat! Would be the perfect size for my wife and I if we were ever to step up! Very nice pix!

X2...Did the Starflite die or get sold...can't remember. New boat looks great. I wish I boated on a big enough body of water to move into a big boat. Did you consider a 2400BRX or were you looking strictly for I/O's?

I made out like a bandit parting out the Flite. It did have some issues. This 220 is only 6" longer than the Flite/Liner. It is a hell of a lot taller though. We had considered that 2400 that sold on Ebay for $16K. That was a hell of a deal. BUT, my wife wanted a potty so it was a no go.

This 220 fits the bill. It is tall enough to cut the waves and still light enough to dance it around when I want to.
