Advice needed for boat cover

Bo

New member
I wondered if anybody had good advice on a Checkmate boat cover. I believe they can be ordered for about $550 from Checkmate, but that is a little steep. I just want something to snuggly cover it and keep the weather out when sitting on the trailer.

My boat is an 86 Diplomat O/B. I think the actual length is 16' 7". It has a tripod ski pylon which adds to the question (it can be disconnected, but I am trying to make it easy)

Thanks

BO I CALLED CHECKMATE 3 MONTHS AGO. AND THEY QUAOTED $750 FOR MY STARFLITE. I JUST TRAILERED HER DOWN TO THE LOCAL BOAT STORE. ASKED ABOUT THEIR RETURN POLICY. PAIDED $115 AND FOUND THE ONE THAT FIT BEST.IT'S NOT A CUSTOM FIT BUT IT KEEPS THE WEATHER OUT. AND I'M NOT SO EMBAR RASSED NOT TO PARK IT IN THE DRIVEWAY. SITUATION SOLVED. MERC 245

Welcome to the board BO. I went down to wal-mart and bought a cover. I got one that was larger than the boat that way I could pull the cover up and over the engine. I was the same as you, just wanted to keep the weather out. I later found out that I could trailer the boat with the cover on IF t was tied down good.

Welcome Bo

Your best bet is a custom cover. I recommend that you bring the machine to a canvas-sewer and have them make a custom cover to your spec.

In Barry's Bay we have a canvas sewer, its a family run shop thats been making covers and tents for our region for like 50 years. For about $1000cdn he will make a cover for a 17' boat with space age 20yr garranteed material, also custom fit and touches to your desires. I have had some work done and seen his work, its outstanding.

Next year mine goes in for a new fit. My cover is a patchwork marvel, and boy can i tell you NEVER buy a canvas cover. Especially if your moor your boat in the elements all season like i do. The sun rots it in no time. 5th summer and its more patches then cover.

Cover is an investment in the life and quality of your Mate.
