Alpha 1 Thru-hull conversion

Hi all, I need some advice. I can't look at my senator sitting any longer. The oring for the exhaust to gimble is blown and I am going to go thru-hull. Do I have to remove the engine or will it come out with it in. Also I am going to need the block-off plate, o-ring and a new gimble bearing if you know of any place to buy. Thanks, Andy

There is no way to get the exhaust y out with the engine in the boat, first you'll never get to the bolts, nor will you be able to clean the area. The proper way is to remove the engine. Are you sure the exhaust is leaking and not your shift cable, bellows, transom shield, steering lever, diesel adaper plug?? there is quite a bit that leak back there.

There is another option , its not safe, so I refrain from mentioning it.

I dont mind pulling the engine, as I just put it in last year. It is definitely coming from the exhaust. It didn't make it in the water last summer because I was sick of working on it. Please pm me the unsafe trick. Thanks.

I think I have a new Alpha exhaust bellows in the garage. If its out there you can have it.

Thanks, I appreciate it, but I just ordered the full bellows kit along with a new gimbal bearing kit. I don't think I will be using the exhaust bellows any way seeing as though it will be blocked off. I remeber when I did my dads in his 4.3 sea ray the exhaust was tough to tighten the clamp on anyway. I also remember fighting with the shift cable....
