Alternative to Merc Special tool?

Old Navy

Active member
I am going through my 150 Optimax gearcase. The shift shaft seal failed and it got some water in it. I wanted to look inside it. So I ordered a bunch of special tools and got out my SELOC manual. The upper drive shaft bearing had some marks on it so I replaced it. Everything else looked new. The Mercury preload tool came in from a vendor on ebay and was missing parts, so I sent it back and ordered one off amazon. The expected delivery date has passed and the boat is 3 weeks late for the water. Is there any alternative to this tool??
