ALUMINUM FLYWHEEL -GOOD? OR BAD?

WOULD IT BE WORTH PUTTING ONE ON MY 1988 200HP MERC? 88 STARFLITE-5" SETBACK- JACK PLATE 23p three blade. is it worth the money?

for what a flywheel doesn't weigh that much its not like its weighing you down any...and i would think the teeth would wear faster from a steel starter all the time, because aluminum is a lot softer.

With out any other mods It properly wouldn't be noticable. And it might compromise your charging system by lowering it to 16 amp.

ps, There is a toothed steel rig as part of fly wheel

an alum flywheel will only benfit you for drag racing. same as in a car. it lets the engine spin up to higher rpm's easier freeing up HP.

not worth the funds on a stock engine. :bigthumb:

I used a meter to check the output of my stock flywheel befor changing to the Lite-weight aluminium and there is a substantial loss of output. If you have a high draw stereo or any other power consuming accessories its probably not a good idea. If you only care about performance you can get by with it. I can't hear my stereo over the engine noise so the only power draw is the depth-sounder and so far I haven't had any battery issues. FYI: my 200 is far from stock.
