I'm looking into HPDE board for when I do my restoration on my boat. looking to build my seats (front and back) bulk heads and possibly side compartments in cockpit. anybody use it? was wondering if it is easy to work with and is it as strong as they say? trying to see if I can find it for less than 200.00 a sheet for 1/2 in.

From another thread on the same subject: Starboard material and competitors like material is basically HDPE (high density polyethylene). Epoxy, silicone, liquid nails or any of the standard adhesives will not bond with the HDPE family of materials. In some cases 3M brand of spray adhesives (typical of contact cement) may bond it but it is not a strond or durable bond. thanks cm, that lead me on to some other things to look into.

I did my research for composite materials at Boatoutfitters.com. I restored my entire boat (floors, stringers, upholstery panels and seats) with composite materials) see my thread above.. "resto/custom/encapsulated enticer". good luck..

The only good way to bond HDPE is thermal welding.....if you can't bolt or screw it together, it will be a pain. Very durable and easy to cut material though. Also, with most plastics, be careful about what temperature you work with it at. It will expand and contract quite a bit.
