anyone else got a 242

jazzy

Well-known member
ive got a 97 242 330 hp 454 bravo 1 and am having some prop issues i am currently running a 21p mirage plus the boat it does 58 at 4950 so i went and bought a used 23p mirage solid hub my boat runs 52-53 at like 4300 which makes no sense to me i thought you should lose like 200 rpms when you jump up a size i am very confused also it seems like the 21 has been thinned definetly some work done to it so im not sure if that makes a difference and also just wondering if someone else has the same model and where theyre at somthing doesnt add up boat is terrible out of the hole and i would assume low sixties not fifties

got the same boat.
23 mirage plus or 22 hydromotive q4 runs 56-58 tops.
the 23MP should put you at that 58 mph and 4600ish, at least mine does.
this boat responds well to added hp. if you come across a 502 mag to swap out youll be in that 66-68 mph range.

mines ready to sell if you guys know of anyone looking. gonna get some photos on the site here soon and repost it in the classifieds.

spread the word!

thanks

oh yeah and tried the hydromotive 22 already no more top end handled better also tried the 23 mirage only thing that worked was a 23 spinelli custom with a smaller diameter i would be interested if anyone could find an old hydromotive intimidator 3 blade they make them in 22 pitch and 24 but for now im gonna try a 22 bravo 1maybe that will work but all signs lead to need more power

boat? motor? prop?

if your reffering to mine.

its a 98 242 sport, 454 carb motor (stock), 22 hydromotive q4, in great condition. I will be listing for 24k with trailer.

work has been VERY busy, I will be taking some pictures soon.

keep trying props, i liked the hydro q4 for the handling not the speed. the bravo or "old mirage" (not "plus") seemed to work best for mine.

boats are such a silly thing the smallest things make the biggest differences so i had a chunk of my anti cavitation plate missing it was just at the mechanic for some drive work and he noticed it was broken off so clean and painted i thought it was supposed to be there so i never gave any thought anyway had it fixed and put a taller air filter boat came out of the hole like never before and ran much better i am now overrevving motor so i need a bigger prop and the search begins again except now i need to tune it up started to break up a little at full throttle which is crazy cause it was overevving at 3/4 throttle like i said the smallest little details often make the biggest differences

Yes indeed. Power is everything when it comes to bigger boats and single engines. Play with props all you want, but with only 330hp, in a 24 footer, you'll want to pull that motor this winter and warm it over. You're going to need perhaps 475-500hp and a good prop to near the 70mph mark.

Hi just bought same boat with 385hp ihave a25plus and found it to big slow getting out but 67 miles at 4600 change to a staight 23 better coming out still 67miles but 5200 would like to try 24 or 23plus any body have any exp with these props

ive been playing with props all season and what ive learned is that hull responds best to the four blades and stern lift props i was running a mirage 21 and 23 have now dialed in to a 22 bravo 1 almost 5 miles an hour diff on the top end and it comes out of the hole a lot better i can ski off of the boat finally

Bravo1 is the best on mine also non labbed

much different boat but my last was a formula 242, 330hp bravo 1 out drive. when i bought it it had a 21 mirage plus, would only do 49, maybe 50, 4600 rpm when everything was perfect. i swapped out for a 22 pitch bravo 1prop and put on some emi exhaust manifolds. was then running consistant 55-56 mph. at a few less rpm. the bravo1 is a bow lifting prop, really gets the boat up and out of the water.
