Anyone have an opinion on a hotshot plate.

Anyone have any experience with something like this? I bought one a few day's ago but would like to know if they actually make a difference before I tear the package open and mount it.

Thanks, John

I know this should be in setup and rigging but for some reason my last dock post was posted twice so I changed it to this.

I dont know how they work but on theory, they should work great. I always wondered about the drag of the setback and even thought about adding a plate to my playmate.

I've heard unless you're scooping water on take off, you won't see any benifit. I hardly scoop any water on take off and have thought about adding somthing like a shield to see if it changes anything... not that I take long to pop up on plane, though. Some guys that have a bigger j/p or setback brackets were running a basket ball in place of a holeshot plate- it also adds some buoyancy to the back of the boat, too. They deflate it some, stuff it in the plate, and then re-inflate it. That trick won't work with mine- has cross bars in the middle of the plate top and bottom.

I have one that's on the gil bracket, it's different than what you're showing. Also it's mounted on top of the gil bracket, here's what it looks like.

I had one on my 10" setback HD RapidJack, and it was fantastic. Wouldn't own a big setback without one.

I'm going to throw it on there and I'll let you all know how it works in three more long months, when the ice drops on my lake, just talked to someone today that said it's almost 5 feet thick, we didn't have much snow this year to insulate the ice and it's extra thick.

I like the basketball idea (seriously), but in fear that it would look "ghetto", I think I will just go with the plate.:D

Haha, I hear ya... but just think of the possibilities- you could go with the miniature basketball that matches your teams colors. Like blue and maze for MI, scarlet and grey for OH. Or give it that custom touch and match your boats colors.. maybe even go with a black one- stealth, so no one would see it.

Me... I would rock the getto plain ol basketball look. It goes good with my stereo system:bigthumb:.

My slider "scoops" water when it is set low, so I have been planning one of these plates for a while.

Mine does similar. When set low, there's actually a spray of water from both sides of the plate that looks like a double rooster tail.

Wonder if CMC offers one and if it can be easily installed??

I just had a quick look on CMC and couldn't find one, I'm sure you could make one easily enough, mine couldn't be any easier to mount, the holes are already on the jp, three bolts and it's done.

I actually called CMC and told them that they were missing out on a business opportunity by not offering a plate for the bottome of their
10" hyd. slider.

Mine scoops water an sprays (gushes) all over the bottom of the cowling. It is really bad.
