Hello All,

I just bought a 1972 MX16 and probably going to need another prop soon. Sammie (Viper 1) was gracious enough to chat with me and advise on setting up my boat better.

When I get home in two weeks going to raise my 1986 135 Black Max about 3" on the transom. I have a 21" on there now and sure I will need more prop. If someone has a 23P Laser II the recommended prop or possibly a chopper or something that might work for me let me know?

When I get off my ship and have faster internet will post some pictures and give more details. This is a great forum and wealth of information. Thanks, go fast and stay safe all on the water

I think I have one, it's either 23 or 25 pitch. Will double check and let you know

The one I have is a 23 pitch, the 25 was on the boat when I sold it. It is in perfect shape

Not sure how to post pix on this site. If interested, PM me your email and I can send you some pictures.

I think I have a 23P Tempest in my basement if you're interested. I bet Sammie can set these MXs up in sleep. Are you running some trim tabs?

I have a 23p Turning Point Speed Zone that would be similar. For sale here in Propeller section. It has only been run a few times, like new and I don't want much for it.

Your right about Sammie, He answered all my questions off the top of his head without even having to think about it. From all his past experience setting up a lot of the old 15 and 16 ft Checkmates through the years he is a wealth of knowledge and I am grateful for that

No I do not have any trim tabs. I never had any growing up in the late 60's early 70's with my old mates and trying to just drive the boat without having any for now to sharpen my skills again. So far so good I have been able to control the chine walk. I think the boat scared the last owner he spent a fair amount of money on the engine and put hydraulic steering in it and only had it in the water twice and seemed glad to see it go.

If anyone has any leads on some of the old original Checkmate trim tabs let me know as I think they are rare and hard to come by but I would be interested.

Thank you

Thank you Checkmate Members for your Kind words. I try to Help all of you any time you members need me. Have a great safe summer. Sincerely Sammie from Action Marine

Thanks I will see how the boat runs when I raise the engine and let you know

Just to clarify, the Turning Point prop I mentioned would be more similar to a Tempest than a Laser. I've run it on a Pulsare with good results. (Also actually works good on a 230 w/ small block)

I have a 24 laser II that belongs to my brother in law. You are more than welcome to try it. I tried to run it on my Evinrude and it wouldn't plane out due to the small hub diameter. I live next to ya in Cleveland TN
