Best Cleaner?

Hey Everyone. Decided to take the carpet out of my '71 JetMate. Does anyone know what the best cleaner would be to remove the "30 years of sitting" smell? The boat is in great shape, except the carpet. I just wanted to clean it good before I put the new carpet in.

Hey Tracy! Good ole soap and water and a good scrubbin' should do the trick. Let it dry good and with time the scent should go away. I've gound that those "miracle cleaners" just mask the scent, and then it comes back. You may consider dumping a bottle of bilge cleaner down in the hull too. That may be where some additional scent is coming from.
I see you're from southern Illinois too? Where about? May run into you on the water sometime!

TRACY, be sure that it is completely dry before you reinstall the carpet so you don't have a moisture problem in the future.
Yeah I know, it's a boat it's gonna get wet sometime.

Thanks for the info. I am right in your back yard...Edwardsville. We live out in Holiday shores which has a 55mph restriction. First year with this boat so we were thinking of going down to Ren Lake or larger this summer just to see what she has.
