"Wanted" Best place to get Merc parts

CYCLONE 2

Member
I need to purchase the plastic front carburator cover for a 1986 Merc 200. The one I have has several cracks around the mounting holes. Is this something I would need to get directly from Mercury? Would they even have parts for an older motor? Is there a used parts facility like a salvage yard that might have something like this?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Where are you located? my dealer would have something like that in the used parts section.
I'm in Northeast Ohio. Youngstown, Ohio. I tried (for a short time) checking out a few websites yesterday for the part but couldn't find my part on the exploded views. I'm not sure what that piece would be called. I would call it a carburator cover. It's plastic and is about 10" X 14" if my memory serves me right. I also need to get the serial number on the engine since I see that's one of the things they ask right up front.
The boat is in storage right now and I don't have easy access to it. I might have the title around here somewhere and it would have the serial number on it.

If you are sure your motor is a 1986 you can use serial number A913228

here is one for a 1983, not sure if its the same as yours

If you dont have any luck once you get your boat out of storage send me a pic of the cover and I'll send you one from my dealer, I know he would have one.

That pic on that link looks like it but with different stickers. Hard to say for sure if it would work or not. Could be an exact fit or maybe some fitment issues that wouldn't become apparent until you went to install it.

I'm really not sure why mine has cracked at those six mounting holes. It would seem that I over tightened the bolts but I know I took extra care to make sure not to over tighten. But, I never did use a torque wrench and it sure wouldn't be the first time I screwed something up.:brickwall:

I think I have what you are after. I just went to the garage and found it. No decals on it and I couldn't find any cracks. How about $10? I am in Louisville, just west of Alliance or east of Canton.

I think we talked about testing some props a while back but for some reason we never got together.

Dave I responded to your PM. I went there before I saw you had responded here. $10.00 sounds like a heck of a deal! Once in a while I do get out that direction. I can give you a call a few days before to see if you'll be around. Good opportunity to take a look at your props too.

That sounds good. If the mild weather comes back soon, I'll be out trying to fish a little. If I get over your way I'll let you know. If you need help with anything I'd be happy to lend a hand. I really enjoy working on boat stuff.
