best way to seal the cap...

I've got the interior out to do a final non-skid and paint and was wondering if anyone has sealed the gap between cap and hull from the inside with anything with any luck. It's about the only place I get any wayer from and when it's a rough day on the sound, it really is a good bit. Thanks. oh, 88 diplomat
 
seal it

I would use 100% silicone something that wont get hard after it cures use some rubber gloves to work it in with your fingers and push it in ther rivits the gloves will save the skin on your hands good luck hookedup

This is just mt 2 cents but I feel like there is only 1 marine sealer to use. 3M 5200 and a big 104 on using rubber gloves. This stuff takes a month of Sundays to wear off when you get it in your fingers LOL! NAPA may keep it in stock and if not they can get it for you, I like the caulking gun size, no fun running out of sealer when you are about 3/4 done with the project :thumb:
 
I wound up using a wirewheel on a grinder on the inside to clean / rough up the edges and burried it in 5200. On the outside, I put a small thin bead of 4200 on the underside of the rubrail and clear silicone on the upper edge. We'll see how dry it stays... interior repainted with low gloss grey imron, used interlux plastic spheres / non skid additive for all the lower areas and rolled it on, repainted the drive and transom assembly with gloss black fullthane, engine's back in and sounds great a little more wiring to do and put the drive the rest of the way back together and on and we're ready for the river again... oh, put the new interior back in too of course... Hope everyone's having a great season...
 
follow up... for the first times since I started running this boat, we come home without any water in the bilge... it was ALL coming from leaks between the cap and hull from water under the rub rail. I was about to go nuts trying to figure out how in the world water was getting some of the places it was! (as in the foam boxes under the consoles and for a while even under the front section of floor (when I rebuilt the stringers and deck, every thing was impregnated with thin epoxy and then coated with epoxy and fiber, but most importantly I installed drain tubes, with caps for areas water isn't expected to get to, in every low spot that I recreated in the new setup.)

For the first time this year, we're not taking on any water... Thanks!
