Boat Insurance

If you are a homeowner I'd just put it on your homeowners policy. I'm with Citizens, and it's not very expensive at all.

My homeowners told me they don't insure boats like mine. I used Boat-Us for 1 year, then they dropped me. They decided that my boat was too fast... Now I am using United Marine Underwriters in Kentucky. 800-477-7140 They are getting me for $820 a year. I have had no problems as of yet.

Thanks Vinny.....I will try them

My Home owners wanted $800.00 per year, seems too much for my old boat.

Called a couple others and they would not even insure it!!

Just tried United Marine...They told me they would not insure it..

This is not funny anymore..

If you boat is powered by a Mercury Marine engine/outdrive or outboard, Mercury now has boat insurance for Merc powered boats only. I believe you can get a quote online but if not I'll get you a phone number they were about $200 dollars cheaper on my boat than any one else. Just something to think about

Life's A Bore on Shore!!

Thanks everyone

I ended up with motorest...$339.00 per year.

Next best was Ed Jones ( thanks Kent ) at $432.00 per year with on the water towing. I already had water towing with Vessel Assist ($99.00 per year) so i didn't need it.

Glad this is behind me....I was almost up a creek with out a big block....

Wow I just saw this thread now I to had posted this question a few month ago, maybe it is a US versus Canada thing I do not know but prices I got here are way higher. I looked at putting my boat under the house policy but after talking to people that had done so and had claims as well as people in the insurance business all told me do not do it. They say the home people really have no idea about boat insurance and all is good UNTIL it is time to pay a claim especially one where someone was hurt.

I bought this fall a 1997 Pulse 186 with a 2004 Merc Opti 200HP, I must have phoned 20 or more insurance people NO ONE would take the boat even if I put the recommended sticker horsepower of 175. If the boat does more than 50-55mph forget it. I guaranty all the guys that have theirs under the house policy will not get renewed or paid in the event of a claim if they now you do more than 50mph.

I finally found a company here in Canada called Marine Expert but am having to pay 1300.00 for the policy. I took it for now to ensure I had coverage for next year at least. On top of that a broker can call them or a person direct, they quoted me direct and also excepted the boat through a broker I spoke to, BUT... they then turned down the broker I use now for my fishing baot and 4 others for the SAME boat request. Finally after speaking to a boss there saying HEY you say you do not insure a boat like this but you did here, they gave me a policy.

One other option I found here was there is a boating club here in Canada called Power and Sail Squadron, if I want to sit there 13 WEEK !! coarse at 300.00 the people the club insures with would take the boat at around 900.00 a year.

I am telling you this sucks insurance is just a form of legalized THEFT and they get away with it, whether it is boat, ATV, Snowmobile they always get you. I plan on visiting the boat show in February here and seeing all the companies that show up to see if I can do better.
