Bravo One XZ outdrive - any feedback?

Im looking at a cmate (ZT220/230) with a 6.2 linked to the Bravo One XZ outdrive. I understand this drive is designed for higher HP with a larger shaft. I don't think the 6.2 needed this, so maybe there is room for future enhancements.

I can't find much literature on the XZ, and see that it is discontinued. The X and XR are still in production, and many spare parts are rated as a match for the X/XR/XZ lines. So I don't think spare parts would be an issue.

Any one know why the XZ was discontinued? Anything I should be concerned about?

Thanks
Eric

Good drive in my opinion, you get the steel tower and bigger shafts from an xr, but the better wearing helical cut gears. The straight cut gears are stronger but they rob hp and seem to wear out sooner. The xz gears also have a thicker floor on them than the standard bravo gears, I have them in a pair of drives with about 600 hp to them for around 4 years now with no gear failures

From what I hear from most drive builders, XZ is better than an XR in their opinion. Newer XR gears from Merc are much softer than the originals.

Just out of curiosity, are you stuck on a Bow Rider?

ZT240 is a better handling boat and I just so happen to have a nice one for sale in the next State over.:poke:

Figured I'd ask.

Back on topic, I have been told by numerous people that the 6.2/Bravo 1 is a bulletproof combo. My buddy has over 500 hours on it with absolutely zero issues.

An XZ drive is absolutely the wrong drive for a small block application. I would be willing to even trade you my standard bravo I just to help you out. Im that kind of guy.....

Bahaha. That is a great drive you have. Ready for a 500-600 hp big block to spin it a lil harder. I will be buiding mine into an XZ in the near future.
