Broke my 502

Just an idea, if boat insurance is anything like auto insurance, at least in my area... it does pay for "idiot" type mistakes! i.e a few years ago we had a BLONDE who ran over a cement parking curb and then drove it to our shop 10 miles with the oil lamp on. Insurance paid 10k PRICELESS!

Wel sorry to here that bud. Im sure u have a motor already but. If not. I had my 383 stroker with blower sittin on top for 5700 not including blower, intake and carb. Makes roughly 575hp at 7psi. Base motor was 475hp.

Goodluck. Keep us updated.

Well the motor is apart and so far so good. There was @ a baseball size hole in the top of the block in the lifter valley. It broke between 1 & 3 and another break between 2 & 4.

The new block is on it's way. The heads and crank both magnafluxed and are both good. Pistons, rods and everything else look good except for the lifters. Some of the lifters were seized up because of the water, so it looks like a new camshaft will accompany the new lifters.

Called my engine guy this morning and as of 10am the crank and cam are in and the pistons were going in this afternoon. Looks like I may have it back by the end of the week.:bigthumb::bigthumb::bigthumb:

Now maybe my wife will get off my azz...

Glad to hear.....Good luck with it!.......mine has to come back out and get torn down.....no oil pressure and some knocking.....fug.

Yessir I did....a $7 breather is to blame....(well maybe me too...haha). When I blew the rear main seal out, it must have damaged the bearings, because she started to knock and lost oil pressure......and it has been loosing power every time out since then. I figured it was too easy to just beable to replaice the seal and change the oil like I did. But I never found any shavings though...I was baffled.

Good luck bro never seen a cam go in before pistons not saying you cant but that is some backwards work.

Well mine probably would have fired today, but as we were priming the oil pump she started shootin oil out of an empty hole, looks like the builder forgot to put a plug in. So I went up to his shop and he gave me the pug and a few more qts of break in oil to replace what is now in my bilge. Damnit, that hting was clean...

Haha...same thing happened to me last year. Was it the one right below the alternator? That is the one my machinist missed......

IDK, BR that was the report he gave me on that day. It's been since high school auto and diesel mechanics that I have put one together so I hired him. He is very well respected in the area and is considered to be one of the best in the midwest. He has built many high performance boat motors including some for various offshore racing teams.

Motor in the boat and all hooked up. Fired right up and seem to idle and run well so far. Only ran it for about ten miutes on the muffs this morning. Brought the boat home and cleaned on it for several hours.

Tomorrow is the maiden voyage. Heading to Carlisle Lake which is about 90 min. drive. Figured a lake would be best for my first trip out since the river is running at what seems to be about 90 mph right now. The locks are wide open and the Illinois River above is still backed up so if something goes wrong I dont want to have to fight the current.

If all goes well tomorrow we will hit the boat club and the river on sunday. Can't wait til the first ten hours are on it. Must be patient...
