camshaft question

looking to put another engine in my 251 after my last ordeal, anyway I have a 468 9.5 comp. oval port heads, performer rpm air gap intake and a comp marine cam w/564I 567E 234I 244E @50 on a 112 just wondering if the cam will work ok ? am running full headers....Thanks Rob

comp cams make nice stuff, with those numbers it is about a 3000 to 6500 rpm range cam. my guess it would be happy at 5200. i am not sure how a bbc runs in boats, but if you want to run it at a lower rpm a little smaller cam might be better. good luck!

if the bottom end of the motor is built well it wouldnt hurt at all to turn it up to the 56-5800 range. all depends on internals though.

cool thing is that you can run a prop that will perform well throughout the range. good lower end and great top speed.

..and the overlap doesn't sound like it will get you into a reversion problem. Comp has a really good tech line. Give 'em a call and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. I've had them make custom grinds for my roundy rounds in the past and they worked out so well that I had to "lie" about my cam specs in tech......hehehehehehe! I bet kct11 can relate to that!!!!

Rob,
Those numbers sound good to me. I would look into grinding that cam on a 114* seperation rather than 112*. Alos, before laying down money on any parts, try to run your combination through a desk top dyno. Providing that you enter exact data, I have found them to be pretty accurate.

Thanks Guys, Vinny I do have desk top dyno and will run it on there and see what comes up. the cam is from a jet biat that I ran a couple of years ago...but pulled the engine and sold the boat.....just already have this engine/cam combo and the intake laying around...Rob
