Checkmate?????

I called for parts today and was told Checkmate is no longer in business and Hustler boats now owns them?

What happened?

I need parts!

Chuck

The guy on the phone said they were basically an answering service and someone would call me back about the parts I wanted. I asked if there was a different number to reach Mike and they said no, someone will call me back.

Hopefully Sammie logs in and sheds some knowledge on this subject. So many poss. could come out of this and it'd be nice for someone who knows to tell the story.

I think this is a great partnership. Hustler builds great fast boats.....I love the new Rockit series and those are on my short list if i was to buy a new boat. Plus they have great marketing.....sex sells. Haha.

Long live Checkmate!

I have officially copy righted the names 'Huckmate' and 'Heckmate'. Any usage of these names in whole or reference will be charged s $5.00 user fee. Any unauthorized user will be contacted by my attorney under statute 1969-23 of the Ohio penal code. All proceeds will be donated to the Ohio home of wayward boaters charity.....

man i love hustler boats....some of the best lookin and best runnin hulls out there in my opinion. glad a major manufacturer has taken an interest....

selling small boats is tough business right now...the demographic that usually purchases boats of this nature (price range) has taken a serious beating in the last 5 years or so. this combined with a flooding used boat market will make navigating to success much more difficult than in previous years. if checkmate can offer fast "sexy" boats (hustler's philosiphy as it were) that they have a niche to fill. i think that the Sjrogen from Pier 57 had some very valid points about marketing and dealer relationships. the current economic climate requires alot more precise execution to be successful with the ever narrowing margins between success and default.

overhead is always a key factor....i also think that international marketing is HUGE for luxury items today.....with rapidly developing economies in much of the modern world the demand for leisure and recreation is skyrocketing in those areas (India, Middle east, china, .....etc). and boats and boat parts sell for waaaaay more on the dollar in those regions than here.

example:

there is a major local houseboat manufacturer that is BOOMING right now when the others are struggling to keep the doors open. after talking wit one of the execs on the lake last year he attributed their increasing success in these difficult times to the expansion efforts they implemented in China in the past couple years. they began marketing/exporting them in china and now have factories in the country that employ hundreds of workers and are swamped with orders going all over europe and asia....

i dont like to hear about businesses and jobs leaving the country but given the current conditions survival may very well depend on it for companies like checkmate that target an ever shrinking demographic.
