Checkmate now Hustler

Since Baja gets a lot of hate around here and Hustler seems to never get hated on will a Hustler inspired checkmate mold be taken in with loving arms?

lol i never really understood why folks hated on Baja....they make good boats in my opinion....hustler is a cut above them i think....

i dont care who takes over teh checkmate legacy...i think its a brand thats worth keeping around

i hope they make a single and twin o/b version! id also like to see what wildman could do with these boats as far as customizing them!!!

It's good for Checkmate ...but

There may be a few Hustler boat owners, that may be a little worried about the direction of that company right now.

Read about Hustlers history on their web site and then see if you still want to ask the question.

The newest model in the fleet will be call the "Checkstler"!!!
Glad to see that Checkmate's future may continue to shine. Hustler powerboats has a great history behind it. Paul Fiore (founding owner) and his son Mike Fiore now own and run Outerlimits. Since aquiring Hustler, Paul LoGiudice has done a fine job of developing new products and promoting the Hustler lineup. With Checkmate in their arsenal, Hustler will now have small outboard powered boats and smaller I/O boats to market!

I still want to ask it. Personally I like the newer "beckmates". I know a lot here aren't Baja fans but I have always thought they were nice looking boats. Just curious if it was people not wanting to see checkmate stray from its roots or just a rivalry between 2 brands when the new versions caught heat on here.

so let me see if I understand. the news of hustler purchasing checkmate has not been published yet. The direction of what Hustler is going to do with checkmate has not been released yet. There is a light for the boat company we seem to love. And already people are going to start bashing the new owners? :shakehead: I wonder if post like the ones above makes it difficult for anyone to want to take over checkmate. the founders of checkmate are gone. the person that purchased it to keep it alive maybe gone and the people that may have just saved it again is already getting bashed. :pissed: why don't we just wait to see what is going to happen before we start bashing the new owners of the company name that we all say we love. :brickwall: at the end of the day if it says CHECKMATE on the side of the boat it is a checkmate. just my 2 cents

Very interesting, so my first guess is that the 300 convincor is out. The 29 rocket being the better of the two boats.

Just checked out the hustler website. They make some nice looking boats. And their old school stuff look really cool also. For better or worse we should al be thankful that someone wants to save the the checkmate name. Wether or not they continue building them in the same fashion as what made them appealing to their hardcore fans, well time will tell I guess.

fine by me, two GREAT boat companies together makes a Super boat company, guessing we wont be seeing too many more punishers though :poke: too bad, it was a beautiful boat.

I'm not bashing Hustler at all, I think they make great boats. I'll be thrilled if the deal gets done.

In my opinion Hustler is in a whole different league then Baja. I guess I wasn't clear in how I said it.(There needs to be a sarcastic font and I would have used it in my second post) I love Hustlers history that's why I directed you all to their web site to look at it. Jupiter Pulsare(Steve) pointed out the other cool thing about Hustlers founders that is not on the web page.

I can imagine that some Hustler boat owners may not be as thrilled as we all are was the other point I made. If I need to explain why I that may be true I can.

Then I'll answer the first question you asked in the earlier post.

In my opinion Hustler boats look awesome and their history and build quality is as good as or better then Checkmates. If they Hustlerize a few of the Checkmates I'd be fine with it.

I have always liked Hustlers.

Regardless of what happens, when I was searching for an I/O there was only two other brands that I looked at... Sunsation and Hustler. Obviously, price dictates what we can purchase and my loyalty to the brand put me in another Checkmate.

If this goes through, it would be a significant change to the Checkmate boat of the past. I love my Checkmate, but Hustler is a class above for sure. Just remember that could translate to higher prices as well.

Here's to the success and future of our beloved brand!

I think if a couple ZT/Convincor bottom molds get a little "Hustled" then it would make for a few more MPH!

Like I said before, Hustler makes a great looking and great running boat and I can't wait to see what comes out of this new partnership!
