P.S. The 300PM is the plan for these 21 hulls!!!

Well the wife loves the room on this Starliner and I love the speed potiential, but she hates the ride when the waves kick up so a deeper 24 degree hull is on the horizon. A 270 bowrider would be the ticket but still out of my price range. After looking at the older Convincors I've had to pass because of the lack of room for more then 5 people. I'm unfortunetly looking at other brand mid 80's boats in the 26'-30' range because they have the room for more people in the seating area. Why are the Checkmates so tight, even the 28 seems to have no room. Oh well.

If I find a OMC V8 or a Promaster 300 for the Starliner before someone offers to buy my boat I'll be keeping her and saving for that second boat later down the road, my best option in my my book, but not my wifes

Have you looked at the newer Hurricane 260 deckboat with the twin 225 motors? That might make me buy a deckboat. Nice ride and compromise for the family:

Probably fast and a nice ride in rough water, what do you think?

Herb... I like that 260 idea and your right about lack of interior on some of the mates... It has come up before on the web, It would be nice to see them STRETCH out the interior space a bit! I think my starflight cockpit could have been at least 4" wider on each side without compromising any of the sweet look it had. I just looked at a 234 open bow and it doesn't have muck more space than your 21 (if any)... but it had a 260/alpha and for top $$$ I want a big block/bravo at least!

FYI, my new project boat is a 26' cat deck boat and looking for a smooth quiet 225-300hp motor now...

Just adding some more pictures of my boat in action from the Checkmate Poker Run this year on the Sandusky Bay. See the park in the background, great place to have a Poker Run. Another from my local river "glowing green in color" while floating next to Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant

End of season lower prices. I want a bigger boat for sure. I guess I should have listened when you all told me the 21' may not be the best boat for the water I run in. 3 long weekend trips in choppy water, big boat wake, and bad weather has made this boating season kind of miserable for the wife and daughter so I need to make it better next year or I'm onto another hobbie.

boat/trailer/motor/12.5" hyd jackplate $7000
boat/motor/trailer/5.5" man jackplate $6000
boat/trailer/5.5" jackplate $5000

Trade for 25' or bigger Checkmate.

FYI - motor mods done last year:

2.6 high comp heads (still have the old heads and they go with the motor as backup)
Boyesen reeds
crankcase stuffers
smoothed intake passages
velocity stacks
exhaust relief
carb tuned (jets corrected)
bubble back added

Comp test last week showed 120 across all cyclinders.

ONLY $7000... what a GREAT DEAL!!!

Very nice boat for the money...and HARD TO FIND!

Good luck with the sale Herb. Lots of nice 25 Convincers out there to choose from, and "over-night" room for the wife and daughter!!!

Thanks jrumon,

I'd love to keep it just for the river, but 2 boats won't fly with the wife and I really don't like boatig on the river.

I still don't have the room I need in a 25' Convincor, but it will have to do utill I can afford the bigger twin outboard or twin I/O deck boat in a few years. I love the looks of the Convincor and if I can get the twin outboard model I'll have a little more leg room and maybe enough room for 2 small jump seats behind the capt. chairs. That would help with people hauling.

Thanks again.

I may actually have a guy who is willing to work a trade even up for my boat. He has an 83 twin outboard he is trying to sell. It's not as pretty , but still a bigger boat and definately worth a trade based on the going rate for a Convincor these days.

Herb, I hear you on the SPACE thing... That is the ONLY and I mean ONLY reason I sold my Starflight with the 300Promax. I was tired of EVERY weekend being "non-boatable" because we had a bunch of people up at the cottage with us. Here's this beautiful CHECKMATE that just sat there all the time because we had 8-16 people up there nearly every weekend. We don't do over-night trips, so this 26'9" CAT deck boat I just got is 100% family friendly!!! It's been a blast even if it's a bit slow right now... it will be getting a power up-grade by spring (looking for a clean used 225+hp motor, EFi, Optimax, E-tec, Honda, Merc or Yamaha 4-stroke, or something???)

I'm wondering what a 300Promax would run like on it???

Wonder if Checkmate needs to build a CAT deck boat splash??? AKA "Deck-mate"
