Checkmate vision

One more thing to know.....

If you do anything that increases your top end much more than around 65mph or higher, your gonna need to start thinking of a drive upgrade, the alpha is a great drive for the small blocks because its slimmer and has less drag, however it doesn't have the strength to hold upto the bigger horsepowers of the motas that get you over 65+ mph.

So if you get your Vision doing 60mph, you should be happy with that unless you want to start throwing real big money into the boat.

Just brought the boat out this morning on Sebago Lake. And with a full tank of gas and no trim we got to 50mph with two adults.we are going to play with the props first and you recommend a 22p.To try to make our mark of 60,65 mph.Dont want to put a whole lot of money in it so we will see what we can do.

Oh buy the way can you post some pics of your vision I would love to see them.

very nice boat. I have the same boat and trailer, the same interior, everything is the same except mine is a open bow. I have enjoyed it very much. I am sure you will too.

I gotta chime in on this-I also have a 1990 Vision 221 w/ a lightly built 454. Before the build, I was getting low/mid 60s w/ a 23 pitch. (Tired 365 hp). With the fresh motor (a bit over 500hp Dyno), it runs low/mid 70s ,lightly labbed mirage 25.(5000rpm). I gotta think a healthy small block should turn a 21 or 22. My last mate was a 20' Exciter GT w/ a 260 hp sbc/alpha,and ran around 60 with a 21 pitch. Just make sure whatever you wind up with, you keep the WOT RPMs within limits.
BTW-welcome to the forum & good luck with the Vision!

Christo, I love this forum, as well as the very helpful fellow checkmate owners. You feel that my 350 mag should turn a 21 or 22.? The intent is to get some top end without having to spend a ton on engine mods. Would you recommend a mirage?

Mirage is a good prop-I've run many of then & and as long as the pitch was right, they worked great for me. Lots of trial & error to get it right. Rule of thumb, approx. 300 to 400 rpm change/ inch of pitch.(more pitch=less rpm).
Not sure what your SB should should be turning at WOT but adjust your pitch to get to that RPM.

Yes I can get some pictures but not for 2 weeks because sadly we will not be back to Deep Creek lake for 2 weeks and that is were we keep it. It is great to read about Visions

By the way, Kurtster is right on in several points, 60 sounds very respectable for this boat w/ a small block. Also, "a drivers boat" is right on. Mine porpoises around 45/50 without serious tab/trim adjustments, but put the throttle down & it runs like it's on rails! Never had a boat that handles like that.
