CMC or Bobs Jackplate?

New member
My Pulse 186 came with a CMC jackplate, but I have a Bobs plate from my other boat. Both are 6" plates. Which is the better plate? I like the Bobs because it is quieter and there is less clutter by the motor, but the pump has to mount somewhere in the boat. What do you guys think? Keep the CMC or put the Bobs on?
Thanks

They wasnt a rebuild kit for my CMC si I trashed it and got a new one. Can you find rebuild kits for either of yours?

I havent looked into rebuild kits. I assume Bobs would be easier to rebuild with the remote pump though..

I think CMC does an exchange program on the cylinder, you can't get parts to rebuild it yourself. On my older CMC jackplate with a remote pump, it seems like they have gone out of their way to use non-standard thread sizes to make things as difficult as possible to repair the unit without using their parts, and they stopped making their parts some time ago (although they offered to sell me a complete new unit for about 10% off the retail price.) Luckily I've been able to adapt a tilt and trim pump from I think a Volvo outdrive and keep things working.

That being said, I think I like the mechanics of the CMC jackplate I have more than the Bob's system, I like the captive rollers more than the plate sliding in and out of two brackets.

Yes I was able to purchase a replacement pump for my CMC years ago, But what I heard but couldn't tell you first handed is, CMC are the slowest risers going while bobs is one of the fastest around. So if all out performance in the quarter mile is your thing, bobs would be the ticket.
