Could it be that finally.....

Could it be that finally we are going to have a new stocking Checkmate dealer in Ontario?

Well, I have it on pretty good authority that we soon should have exactly that. Lake & Trail Marine, formerly Rick's Marine, will be stocking Checkmates in the not too distant future. For those of you who aren't aware, Lake & Trail are located in Perth, Ontario and earlier this year they started selling Checkmates on a special order basis. Which is good!

But I'm hearing things might just be, about to get even better! From what I hear, Lake & Trail are about to become a stocking dealer. Which is great! And if everything goes as planned, you just might see some '05 Mates at the Ottawa boat show next spring! And that's awesome! One of our members "Dave Y", is one of the fellas at Lake & Trail and he is a huge Mate fan himself, so I know he must have his fingers crossed!

If everything works out, I hope all of our Ontario Mate owners will do their best to get behind Lake & Trail and support them, after all, it's in our best interest!

We really need a great local dealer, and Dave and the guys at Lake & Trail need our support to make the Mate program a success. :thumb:

Dave's a regular around the site, so hopefully he can keep us up to date as things progress.

You can reach Lake & Trail by phone at (613)267-4861/(800)241-1751

Sweet stuff, always room for one more Mate on the water.

I was very disappointed this year in the boat show, but id go again in a second if a few Mates happent o show up for the party.

I bought my Mate from Ricks or now Lake and Trail, and Mark and Dave and the boys are A1 for service and they will beat any other quote.

You would not make a mistake buying from them.

well...I put an order of boats in today!
16' Pulsare BR
1850 Pulsare BR
2100 Pulsare BR
ZT230 BR with 350MAG MPI
ZT240 with 496HO MPI
any suggetions and anything that I ordered let me know. And later I will be odering 18 Closed deck, 2100Pulsare closed deck and maybe a ZT280 or a Conv. 300. We have a 500hp to put in something I was thinking to put in the ZT240. So should I or not?

around here in washington the dealer for checkmates got 6 open bow and 2 closed bow checkmates and only sold the 2 closed bow i guess i would stick with the closed bow and sell a bunch of those i mean you wouldnt want to be in the front of a checkmate going 70 mph down the bay or ne thing. and sure why not put the 500hp in ZT240

thanks for your input... thats what they had coming out of the molds and they will be 05's! We will be ordering some closed deck's 18 and a 21! now I gotta get some outboards for these boats... any sugg.?

i'm thinking the same but I thinking 150 Opti for the 18', 200 Opti for the 21 or the 225 opti and a 115 Opti for the 16'. If I keep the 21 for myself I will go with the 250 Opti. But what will sell with these boats is what I need to know! With my luck someone will want the opposite engine that I have!lol

Pride sold most of their Pulsares with the 225 Optimax.

They sold most of their 18' Pulse models with a 175.

Hey Chris, I believe that did that as that is what the Coast Guard sticker rates. Most dealers with stay within that unless asked otherwise by a client.

Rick's had a 200 Opti on mine and insurance was the only issue really in the end, I had a couple of choices and got it insured.

I think the Pulsare is rated for a 250. And actually, once you get over a certain length boat, I don't think it matters. I know our fellow members from the States often mention this fact, but to be honest I'm not totally sure what our Canadian rules are. I think in general most people who buy a performance boat, are going to rig it with as much power as it will hold. But, there are always exceptions obviously.

I know one guy at Pride told me that anyone who rigged a Pulsare with a 250 or more, was required to sign a waiver and they strongly suggested that the buyer spend some time with one of the sales reps for an orientation session.

I would set the 21' up with 225 and 18' with 150 and then let a customer upgrade to a 250 or 300 if they desired. The 175 & 225 will still let the boat perform well but be plenty safe for novice boaters.

In a nutshell, when a boat is rated at "x" horsepower and you go over it, then you are opening yourself up to a world of liablity (in Canada anyway). The marina may protect itself from the original purchaser if anything happens (called an "overpowered boat agreement") BUT, if the original purchaser sells that boat to someone else and that person kills someone then the original selling dealer can be held liable for selling that overpowered boat to start with (the agreement as i understand it only covers the orignal owner and not future owners) Not only that, but the tech who installed that engine can also be held liable.

This spring our sales dept. sold an engine to customer that was rated over the max hp of the boat and every tech here refused to install it. Ended up losing the deal but we all sleep at night.

My 2 cents - rig those boats with the max they will take according to the capacity plate. Chris is right over a certain length (around the 20-21ft mark) you can put whatever power you want on a boat.

Have a look at the "XS" engines from merc - they might match up nice with one of those hulls. We sold a bunch of allisons with 200XS optis and they worked very well.

Out of curiosity, what will the boats be selling for in cdn funds - especially the 1850?
