Crazy little jet boat

I have plans to make a wooden boat and want to turn it into a jet boat.]

Now THAT was a fun video to watch --- thanks for sharing, however don't try that stuff with a wooden jet boat :shakehead:

O I know it would be toothpicks! That's how I came across it though but I'm thinking of making one of these now. It seams to be popular in New Zealand. It's called mouton boating. I already found plans for the boat here. http://www.aluminumboatdesigns.com/stock/10ftjetboat.htm
The cool thing about aluminum is that you can cut it with most woodworking power tools. I don't know much about jet boats but I'm vary interested in these. It seams like a lot of people are also using street bike motors. Here's one with a Kawasaki zx10 motor I believe there like 110-130 hp in a 10' boat that 450lbs Ya Buddy!

Looks ridiculously fun, but I think it needs a good roll bar like the larger versions for running rapids.

Nice vid. I am not sure which country is more crazy, New Zealand or Australia for these small jet boats.

Good luck with the project if you start one.

Ya I know right some o the stuff the do I wouldn't think of doing. Heres a video of the steering braking and trying to get it back down river. I really like the way the finely get it out.

Can any one figure our what that is in the center of the boat between the two guys? I'm thinking intake but not sure.

O really nice! I haven't seen much from Australia but I'm sure I will. Ya I would like to start one! Got to find more info about them. Pump motor and what not. Maybe not this winter but it's on the project list.

What's a sport jet from ?

Well, I'm glad you ask. Although they make them in several sizes, I'm partial to the 175 and on up Mercury Sport Jets. Imagine a 2 and a half liter v-6 outboard powerhead on top of a jet pump with a 7 and a quarter inch impeller. I have found them to be rock solid reliable. You can get adjustable trim tab and nozzle and the motor responds well to performance mods. You can put the sticker from a 90 horsepower sport jet onto your 240 horse sport jet and confound most jet ski or sea doo type vessels. Engine and pump weigh in at around 300 pounds.

Awesome fun video. Thanks!
Cool vid. Am I the only one to tilt his head at the 56 second mark?
No. Me too.
BTW. Wood...? I'd give it just a few minutes provided the dam hasn't been released that day.
What's the repair to use time/space continuum formula on that puppy?

Looked like an orange gas can to me!

I had a sleepless night last night so I was checking out glen-l boats on YouTube. I have plans to make a wooden boat and want to turn it into a jet boat. But any how I came across these little boats. Crazy little things looks like so much fun.

That is a cool little boat. Glen L does have a plan or two for Jet boats:

I like the old style Barrel Backs. The little Cracker Box racers are cool too

Thanks Jimway ya I think i was watching some videos with a Jon boats with them on them They were racing them with a 2 man team. One driving. One man hanging of the front to keep the nose down.

Ya I know Jetmate I got the plans in high school cuz I wanted to build it in wood shop at school but didn't have time to do it. Now that I'm out of work cuz of my back I'm looking for something light to play around with. This is the boat that I have plans for.

It's 12'-3" but I think you can stretch it to 15' I would like to make it a signal cockpit. And make it a jet boat and make it fly. That's my plan not sure if I'm going to get to it anytime soon. I'm just playing around with the idea.

That is a cool looking design. I like the old Johnson/Evenrude motor. I wouldn't mind building one of their boats, but there is always that time and money thing that plays into it. lol

I was building the Glen-L Crackerbox but stopped when I bought the Starflite to resto. Shame on me. Hull is built, bottom has Mahogany planks bonded to it. Just need to plank the side, bore the shaft and rudder holes before turning it over. Have the motor and all hardware for the driveline along with steering controls. I stretched it the 10% allow by the plans so I can get a trans in it without messing up the CG and CB.

Once I sell the house here in Cape May and relocate full time to Wellesley Island in the 1000 Islands, NY I will complete it and ride proud in a mahogany speedboat.

Glen-L has neat plans and designs.

Cool videos. Is it just me or does anyone else think helmets might be appropriate attire. That helicopter ride had to add to the operating cost factor. :bigthumb:
