Dad's hunting for a new boat

Hey everyone, i just thought i would pop in to get everyone's opinion on different boats and brands. My father is looking into buying a bowrider in the 18-19' range (possibly a 20). I tried to convince him of a Checkmate, but it really isn't his thing. He is looking for a family boat, stern drive, and one that won't break the bank. Right now we are looking at several different brands and models. Glastron, Tahoe, four winns, larson (we really liked the larson we saw at the boat show, but at the dealer, EVERY SINGLE BOAT HAD A CRACKED DASH, so this has been moved pretty low on our list), he was looking at a few bayliners but i quickly turned him away. What would you guys rank these boats in? I tend to think of four winns as a quality boat, but they all seam to be decent boats. Any others to add to the list to look at?

Whats the probem with getting a Checkmate. I have had all kinds of boats with different power. And if I was buying anything without a cuddy such as a Convincor it would be a O/B. They are so much easier to deal with.

Yeah as far as I know they are all pretty much built by the same company, Genmar marine that from what I've heard went bankrupt a year or two ago, I know there are still boats being put out though, here's a list of boats they make.

Aquasport, Carver, Crestliner, Glastron, Larson, Logic Marine, Lund, Ranger, Trojan, Wellcraft, Four Winns, Hydra-Sports, Javelin, Lowe, Seaswirl, and Stratos

If I was looking for a boat like that I would go with a Tahoe, I know a few guy's that have them and are very happy with them, they are built by the same company that owns Bass Pro Shops.

i know, i know. My dad wants a swim platform, sun pad, and larger freeboard that you get with the i/o's. This combined with the fact that a Checkmate of the same size would probably cost about 50% more than the other brands. I'll keep my eye out for some good used 'mates though (within 5 or so years). Who knows, maybe i can convince him :).
