Electric Hatch lift wiring

Well-known member
anybody know the wiring diagram of the electric hatch lift from a 253...uses only 2 wires on the motor with no ground....was working under the dash installing the hyd steering now won't go down..just up ?? power out of only one side of switch
? thanks Rob

If God had meant for man to have electric hatch lifts he would have provided him with wiring schematics. Now stop messing with the master plan!

check to make sure you didnt disturb the kill switch in the engine compartment. i went through a similar situation and was puzzled for quite a while that switch shuts off the downward power its a little push button mounted on the underside of the deck mold where the hatch touches so that you cant overtorque the hatch with the hydraulic pump

Some models used a four or 6 wire on the switch. The cyl. works like a power window in a car.

The hot and ground are reversed to make it go up or down.

I have seen one hatch cyl. that had 4 wires but most only have 2. DO NOT PUT A PERMANENT GROUND ON THE CYL.

check the contact connections on the dash switch.
mine used to work sometimes and not work other times.
i cleaned the switch contacts and it then worked great all the time.

I knocked one of the power wires off when getting the Hyd helm in place...not much room....and that thing is heavy and awkward with all the lines attached..

On my 242 their was a main wire with a fused link that came off the battery that was the main power source for the hatch. Thought the cyl. was going bad but the fuse had corrosion on it.

I guess my way and napkin way have same results. hatch still slow, did all the electrical clean up, still slow. spliced in two wires and ran them to the number 2 battery well. Attached clips, if switch goes bad or its slow to raise, i just touch these to the battery and voila hatch raises, reverse polaity and hatch lowers.
