Hi.

I have a 1995 Persuader 21'. I was going across the lake around 60 MPH when the boat just died. It acted like I turned the key off. I found a blown fuse and replaced it. No help. When I turn the key it does nothing. I still have power to trim and all lights, blower, etc I do not have any power to what runs off the key switch. I am looking for advice on how to trouble shot this or has anyone seen this before?

I am looking forward to your responses.

Thanks Dan.

I was gonna ask what kind of motor you have but seen it in your avatar. The inboard guys can help with this.

Is there power in to the ignition. If so it is more than likely at the starter/solenoid and hopefully just a bad connection. I am sure there will be more help coming. I would start there. Good luck with it. Jeff

Follow the two wires from the underside of the shifter

Did you hit a bump and then nothing, check leads on ignition, best way to trouble shoot is to follow the power start at key then to lanyard( which might also be your issue you could have the toggle pulled just enough to shut off power) then to neutral switch then to starter then to ignition

When you say lanyard are you saying the fuse holder board? I have no power to the fuse board. When you say neutral switch are you talking about what kinda looks like a wire connector?

Thanks Dan

The lanyard is the kill switch you should be tethered to in case you are no longer able to operate the boat which would be a switch on the dash with a cord hangin from. The neutral safety swith would be in the control/ throttle box. Keep us posted.

Is there a fuse in the engine dept i should check? How do I know if the circuit breaker is working correct?

Do all boats have lanyards? I do not see a lanyard on this boat.

Thanks

I don't believe all boats have lanyards. If it's there I would assume it would be where mine is, which is either parallel or under the throttle. There should be something that hangs from it which looks like this

But if it's not there, it will just look like a regular switch. You may not have one. This is the easy....most obvious answer as it just means a bump or hand accidently kicked the switch to off....in which case you lose ignition.

You say you blew a fuse...where was this fuse located? What did it go to? When you replaced it did it immediately blow again? The fuse is designed to protect the circuit. You probably have something on that circuit that's shorted out. Make sure your battery terminals are tight, then work your way back from the fuse going away from the battery.

also ck the big wire connector at the engine, seen the get corroded and kill the engine, should be toward the rear/top of the engine and has a hose clamp around it, take it apart, clean lube and see what you have then...

The fuse the was blown was the ignition fuse in the fuse holder under dash. Also found the fuse just off battery blown. Replaced both no help!

Thanks

I just got power back to the ignition. I had found a blown fuse under the dash and a blown fuse just off battery. The inline fuse holder off the battery was not tight enough. My next question is would the loose connection on fuse holder take both fuses out? Or do I have a bigger issue?

Thanks

check near your battery, if under the seat like mine there was a red wire with inline fuse. mine blew.. found out about it drifting down the river powerless. Tomorrow changing it to a blade fuse holder.

the lanyard thing is a kill switch near the throttle. also check the trailer switch, near the outdrive. boat will not start if that switch thinks the outdrive is all the way up, in trailer mode.
