Eluder?

X-Streamer

New member
Hello, Just wondering why were all the eluders went. I have one with a 350 mag and its a great little boat. why are they so rare? Any body running a V8 in this boat? :bigthumb:

i have one with a 3.7lx 190 horse

they do seem rare but checkmate seems to build more closed bows than bowriders

i have seen a lot of them here and boat trader
saw one with a 455 olds and a berkley jet

Hello, thanks for the response. what top end speeds are you getting with the 190 hp? What prop are you running? thanks :p

I have a 1979 Eluder that is set up with an outboard. I am presently in the process of restoring it. I have the seats at an upholstery shop right now and have been buffing out the gelcoat on it. I think it is going to look great when I finish it. Can't wait for next summer to get back on the river with it.

i run mid 50's on the speedo with a 21 mirage 1.84 to one gear ratio
pulls stong out of the hole

we ski alot and it works good for that
the best thing about the 4 banger is the fuel economy

i have an 81 eluder with a 3.7L. but i've been thinking about switching to different motor or selling it (it blew a head gasket at the end of last season). x-streamer, did you boat come with a 350?

if you are going to change to a v-6 or v-8 there are a couple of things you will have to do

1 rebiuild the drive and change the upper gears to 1.5 to one

2 take out the boxes and add stringers for engine mounts then build in new flotation boxes from there

a stock 260 should run in the low 60's with a 21 mirage

there are a few other things to consider

1 exaust through prop or through transom?
if you want through prop or captians call then you have to install a y-pipe
at the transom plate

2 shift and throttle cables
dipending on your setup you might be able to reuse them
you might have to swap them

3 wiring if you stay with merc it is all plug and play

if you don't buy a package or bobtail you will need to find a donor boat for all the brackets and such
