The 200 ive got is an early 80's with the blue decals and "200" in red. These ones still good aswell?

Ive got an 84 (i think) 2.4L 200 on one of our family boats that i have been running the crap out of for as long as i can remember and it still runs like a champ! On the 2.4's run them a little fat on fuel. It is a little harder on plugs but not bad. We run ours up one set on carb jets and we run an electric fuel pump when running hard to make sure the pulse pump always has fuel at it. I have put probably 100 hours on it at over 6000 rpm and it is still running just as strong as it did the first time i ran it!

Yup. I think a lot of the problems with those is that they're 30 years old and need some heavy duty maintenance so they'll be good for another 30. Diaphragm fuel pumps get tired, carbs get dirty jets get plugged, and things go boom. Probably good to pull the oil injection off too just because of the age unless you are willing to give it a once over and check the gears.

I have blown two merc 2.0 150 motors and both of them I premix gas at 40:1 and the first one the ring cracked on #5 and got on top of piston game over! The second one the motor got hot and seized the #6 piston up but when it did the rod disconnected from piston! But I've never strayed from the old mercs I love them to me pound for pound they run and sound like no other!!!!!

Perfect sounds good, ill have to get a decal kit for a 1990 135 black max to fool thoes unsespecting j-craft owners :surf:

I used to have 200 stickers on my boat. I'm not fooling anyone with that thing. One look at it and you know it is rated for a 125 at best , which it is. People would say things at the dock or wherever I parked it. It was getting a lot of unwanted attention that could have meant cop attention eventually and a possible ticket. Since I put the "2.5" cowl on there no one has said a word. Hardly anyone knows what a 2.5 is HP wise at least where I'm at and even though I'm pushing 250 HP or so Ive lost a lot of the scrutiny I didnt like. I'd rather leave them guessing.

New transom, the 3/4" ply is trippled up instead of just doubled to handle the extra power.

Last thing on the list is replace the section of core up front the previous owner started taking up. There was only a few black spots where something was screwed into it. Probly dident need to take out asmuch but oh well!
