Exciter rail removal

Looking to remove the rails from my exciter to make it easier polish.
Is it possible to undo one end or the other and slide the rails out
without removing all the stancions? They have a pretty good curve to them,
I was just wondering if they would slide all the way out.

Thanks Jon

Just pulled the rails off my Liner and am in the process of reinstalling them. Some of the stanchions would literally slide off the end if I didn't hold them, others were kind of tight coming off. I removed them to polish the stainless rail. I would just remove the stanchions, the only problem I am running into is reattaching the front of the rail since I cannot reach under the front that far.

John

Mine are curved to flow with the hull, I think most are.
If you take off the end cap you might be able to slide it out, I know mine moves back and forth slightly so i think mine would. Give it a shot, its only the one cap so if it doesn't work nothing really lost.

Jon, I tried it on "Wasted Income" when I built it. To slide one or two is no big deal but when there is a bunch, I could not slide my rail......especially with the bend they put in them up around the bow. Also you run the risk of putting gouges and scratching the rail.
Good Luck!

Removing the stanchions isn't too big of a deal on the exciter. I could easily get to all of the screws and nuts, and had them both off in about 20 mins. It will make buffing much easier without them in the way.

Thanks for the replies. The more I thought about it I realized it wasn't
going to work. I could probably take the front few off on each side and
slide them forward but then there would only be a few left. I'll try and get an extra set of hands and it shouldn't take long to remove them.

If you can't reach the nut and the screw head at the same time a vice grip clamped onto the nut will usually work in lieu of a second set of hands.
