jrumon on this site is putting a 300x on a starflight.

I am rigging the boat with a 6 inch setback
jackplate, and a srx 29 pitch prop. The engine has
the factory open exhuast & the intake/reed blocks
are at Taylor Marine/MAD EFI right now being ported and modified.

, SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT PACKAGE. I'VE HEARD OF OLD STARFLITES RUNNING 90MPH WITH THOSE BIG V-8'S, YOUR OPEN BOW MAY SLOW YOU DOWN A LITTLE.

NO pics yet--wife got a new digtal camara for
Christmas but hasent quite figured out how to use it. The boat is "complete" but in pieces, if that makes sense. Everything has either been bought, built or rebuilt, I just havent started to put it back together yet.

I picked up the boat this time last year for
$ 600 at a buy here pay here car lot. It had a blown up 175 johnson, rotten floor & stringers
and worn out interior. The guy wanted $2500
for it but after I stepped through the floor
(just to make a point) and showed him the engine was frozen up he came around. But the exterior of the hull is perfect--2 gallons of
3M buffing compound & a weekend later it is
absolutely perfect. Not a single scratch on the hull sides or the bottom. I think the thing just sat outside until it rotted the inside.

I'm putting a 10" CMC unit on my '92 Starflight with the 300 Promax/Sportmaster. My 300 is a whole lot lighter than that V8 monster... I rode in a stock Evinrude 300GT powered one back in the 80's and saw 88mph on the speedo!

I'm die'ing to see the performance results with the big Merc power, better lower unit, and more set-back! Any takers on what HULL is faster with a 300 Promax???

The litature says 480lbs...(including the weight of the trim pump which is mounted inside the boat with the offshore mid I have).

Hmmmm....let's see, starflite has step, moderate v at the transom, less deadrise in the bow, possibly heavier, older hull design.....Pulsare has pad bottom, no step, more deadrise throughout V, possibly lighter, more modern hull design....sounds like a great race if we could get two boats equipped identically (setback, prop, motor, etc). I'd be real curious to see which boat would be faster.

Hey Big J
I'm working on exactly the same project. I picked up a 1986 Starliner, also from Florida. I guess they like to leave them uncovered in the rain down there. It too had a completely rotten floor and stringers. I'm almost finished. New floor, stringers, rubrail, deck hardware, jackplate, etc. I'm just about to do the carpet and put interior back in(new). I'm going to post the before and afters in a few weeks when she's all done. I'm going more modest power thou - 200-225hp.
