Finaly got a GPS

Big Dave

Member
I won a I-way 250 Portable GPS unit from one of the major truck stop chains.
Li'l Dave was home when they delivered it, and decided to try it out. He went to Lake Ray Hubbard today and it was about 45 deg outside wind blowing 12 to 15 mph. He found a semi-smooth area, and ran the boat up after warming it up and pulled 5400 rpm at 69.47MPH on GPS. with just him in the boat, it was off balance to the right, and he would have to back out of it at that point.

17'10" Diplomat I/O
350 chev
Alpha 1.5 to 1
Mach Sterndriver 14.5 X 22 4 blade
Prop calculator shows that to be about 7% slip which is almost exactly the slip that Sneeky Pete showed with his.
I am very pleased with the boat, and I think with just a little more pitch, we should easily break lower 70's

:) Great job , how does it handle at that speed. Just think .53 of mph and you'll be at the elusive 70. When we first got our starflite I told the gf I just wanted to run 60 with 4 people in it, well this summer we ended up at 70 with 4 people and 74.3 solo. But we all now how that goes ive got her convinced now id like to see 75 with 4 people and flirting with 80 solo.I bet buy the end of summer youll be thinking the same. Whats the fastest those hulls have gone maybe you can be the first to see whats to much or how checkmate fans would say just about rite. Aaron

Dave says with this new prop, it rides higher and smoother, takes rough water better, faster out of the hole and is 2 inches more pitch than we were running before!!!!
I want to find a 24 or 25 p mirage to try but will have to wait for a while
The 5 of us went out for a quick ride after we got the prop, but it got too dark to see. the boat did ride much higher out of the water, and seemed to have a much smaller wake with the spray coming out closer to the stern.

motor seems under much less strain, I guess the old prop was really trashed

Thanks JW
I'm almost glad the 305 blew up!!!
Best thing though is that it still pulls hard from low end for skiing and such
