Did the bolts come out completely? If not, the timing should stay where it was, but, I'm no expert on this engine.

I would check the bolts for damage before re using them and use Loctite 242 on the bolts. New bolts and Loctite would be a better idea because it seems that the old bolts have lost some of their spring.

I was looking at it yesterday, turning it by hand I just remember the center nut was staying still I didnt have a socket big enough to tighten it so I left it for Satuday. But now Im thinking there were callibrations on the wheel. somthing about the first and second strokes.

Sounds like the flywheel nut loosened and sheered a keyway...

The key will reference the flywheel to the correct timing position...

Hopefully, the crank and flywheel are not messed up too badly from the key sheering!!!

Just proves that I'm no expert on this engine. LOL(see my first reply)

I do agree with jrumon, that if it is the nut that came loose the keyway and crank may be damaged. Have a good look at it and also have an expert look at it as well if you're not sure about it.

Wow.. normally that d key breaks when you shut the engine off.. as mentioned earlier... inspect the crank, and the flywheel too.. make sure your magnets are in tact, and that your flywheel didn't crack.. if the magnets are cracked you can buy a magnet kit and replace them according to the instructions that come with the kit.. i think there about 20 bucks. just for notes... i change my d key every year when i do my water pump, and lower unit gear oil change... good luck
