How short are you going with the mid section..will a V6 mid section fit on a V8 I know where some short mids for V6's are. If it will help you send PM and I will send you the info. Mathew Caldwell on Scream and Fly races a V8 not long ago had some parts for them for sale!! are you going to go in behind the liners to do any work ?

We are looking around the web for a 20(v8) before really going Frankenstein on this,I do Have a spare 20 of my other v6 that we are eyeballing,,Lots of cutting and welding required..

There is a guy in Jacksonville FL that will shorten your mid. Otherwise check with Taylor Marine/ MAD EFI. I think they have a adapter plate to mount a V8 powerhead to a V6 mid.

Jack that had Quarter Shot in Jacksonville Fla cut a 20 to a 15 mid shortened the drive shaft and resplined it to match all for around a grand.
That was for a V6 don't know if there is a different charge for a V8

I love the look of a V8 always wanted one to play with I just have to many V6 parts here to change to something else !!!

Very Cool Project!

I have cut down the stock mids before and it's not that bad if you have a buddy at a good machine shop.
Couple of issues though.

One is welding it back together. We indexed it to keep both parts square and then welded inside and outside both.
The driveshaft is an isssue though. The OMC's have a larger diameter at the splined end compared to the Merc that are the same so you cannot respline you have to cut it and weld back together which is what we did.

Tons of potential in an 8 if you do it right.

I have a 6 on a 16" Taylor mid and I don't think I'd try putting an 8 on it even if you could. The exhaust openings would be way off.
The Taylor mids are not plug and play either.
I had way less time (and $$$) and headaches in my cut down stocker than I did on my Taylor.
I am just finishing another one for a customer of mine. He bought his already assembled but......the guy that orig assembled it (Monty Racing) charged his customer an additional 3 hrs labor just to get it to go together!
I just charged my customer an additional 5 hrs to finish the modifications to get full down trim and lock to lock steering which you will not get on a Taylor mid w/o this work.

Sporty that I....

Is that a sportsmaster or CLE lower unit that you are running? Its BAD A$$ lookin either way!
put 1.62 gears in. Thanks for the compliment. Here's couple more shots of the project.
An advantage to Waynes mid is it is available with OMC or Merc l/u bolt pattern. On a factory mid you have to make/use an adaptor plate.

Cool looking boat in your avatar and I see you're in Ocala.
