Since you all talked me into buying this thing, I thought I ought to keep everyone updated:
The 1974 Sutphen floats!
Goes, too, though I can't tell how fast... no signal on cell at the lake and the speedo pitot hit something harder than water before I got a good read.

Looking good. The speedo pickup on mine pops up all the time. Usually when I get up over 60 and cross a couple of wakes.
 
When I couldn't get the boat over 20mph I went back and looked....tip of the pitot was cracked right off. Sure glad that was the problem and I wasn't really going 20.
