Gelcoat?clearcoat

I have a 1991 starliner, the sides look great but the top is a little weather beaten,,I was wondering if it was gelcoat or paint that year..or gelcoat and clear paint...it looks like I am loosing my clear coat and that is where the paint looks bad...I was thinking of getting it buffed and then clear coated, but do not even know if the clear coat is gelcoat...

From the factory it should always be gel as far as I'm aware.

Usually clear is sprayed by owners trying to bring back the shine.

that is what has me confused..the clearcoat part, there is something peeling and it is not red..must have been done profesionally(man I killed that spelling LOL)because where it is not peeling looks GREAT..

It sounds like it was sprayed with clear.

But the factory guys can probably give you the definitive answer.

I had the same problem with my spectra and in the end of the day someone had put on a clear coat over the gel! I had to wetsand to remove the clear coat and then aqua-buff and polish! in the end it came out great but it did require alot of work! thanks post a picture?

The only way I could make the maroon shine on mine was to wet sand it and clear coat it....course it doesn't last that long, time to do it again
