Gelcoat has gone milky... again?

At a certain point all the wet sanding, buffing and polishing is only going to get you a few weeks. I know, been dealing with a black starflite for the 18 yrs. At some point you'll have to decide to shoot another clear finish of your choice on it. After the boat sat for a 1 1/2 yrs, I just spent the last week wet sanding the haze out and and shooting clear on it and wet sanding the clear up to 1500 and buffing and polish. Its Taken the entire deck from a 2 to a 9 on a scale of 10. Even had the neighbors come by and comment. Sorry no pics.

For about $225 you can get a 10x20 instant garage from Costco. I keep my boat in one and keep it covered to boot. The sun will destroy all your hard work, I did the same job as you did about 8 weeks ago and she still looks great. Not as good as the day I finished but not much worse.

once your through the clear on the gel, you will always be cloudy. sand and buff will only last for a little while. i had mine recleared and it lasted wonderful....plus when your in the sun, the smell of fresh gel is awesome....that lasted for almost a year!! never had an issue after that but fought it for two years!!

you will have to give into that, it wont get any better, even stored indoors!

 nice job merc! that looks amazing!
Is there a special clear coat that you used for the marine application?

No not that I know of. I did go to the local painters supply store. (Its been there for 40 plus yrs and handles hundreds of accounts of local body shops and dealerships). I told them what I was doing and they set me up. I can tell you that once shot before sanding, it did have a vinyl feel about it. The only experience I have was being a bodyshop porter then painters helper for a few yrs almost 30 yrs ago as a teenager. And I truely like to sand things. Good Luck, we'll see how many yrs I get out this. Jeff

Plus with everything I had less then a full tank worth of money involved.
