GPS Speedometer

Just curious....

Anyone on here had any luck (or thoughts) on the Teleflex GPS speedometer and associated antenna?

I looked around and just couldn't justify spending $400+ on a speedometer! So, I looked around yesterday and found the Teleflex Artic GPS and associated Antenna at Cabelas.com.

$286.00 shipped to my door.

Thanks in advance!

I do have a GPS speedo and really like it. Currently I have the smartcraft gauge setup on my Pulsare. The boat didnt originally come this way but all I had to do was add an antenna for a cool $300 on to my system. But it sure is nice being on the water and having all of your gauges displaying accurate info.

I went the other route. I also have the smartcraft gages but hooked the speedo up to the tube senser (non GPS). I already had a lorance chart plotter GPS/dept finder mounted and it had the GPS speed in it already. I use the lorance GPS for the speed #s.

Thanks for the replies, the smartcraft gauges are nice (given what they can do!) but the speedo itself is $500 + Antenna $300 (if not already equipped, which, mine is not) I really just needed a new replacement and for the price, the Teleflex seemed a bargain...often you get what you pay for; however, sometimes you get surprised...I'm hoping this is the case...either way, it's got to be far more accurate than the original speedo and it will fit in the same sized cut-out in the dash. I plan on replacing all gauges with the same if I like the speedo...time will tell!

Ciao,

Brett

Kevin, where in Tacoma do you live? I'm originally from University Place (went to Chamber Elem. then Curtis Jr. High, albeit, eons ago). Moved to Colorado in 1985 and have pretty much lived here ever since! Me = jealous of the boating you get to do...The Puget Sound and all the lakes...had a ton of good times on Lake Tapps and Gravely Lake! I grew up on my grandfather's cuddy-cabin Bayliner and a friend of my dad's sailboat!

Wow small world. I grew up in UP also (24th and Grandview) went to UP elementary until 5th grade then went to cambers then on to Curtis. 84 Grad so its been awhile for me also. Yeah even though we don't have the longest summers around here I wouldn't trade the boating for anything, and I've moved around the country over the years. Good luck on the speedo and have a great summer.

The gps speedo's are great! I have used the Nordskog and Intellitronics and verified them both with radar to be within 1/10 of a mph at any speed. As far as I know, most ov them use a Garmin antenna.

The first 2 that I did, I drilled the dash for the cable to go through and mounted them on top of the dash under the windshield. Then I found out that you can mount them under the das out of sight with no drilling and they work just as well.

Funny! I have been on there web site and there is no way to make a purchase. I have called them and no one is ever available to take your call. I figured that maybe someone would know of a dealer who sells them.:poke:

Ok, so here's the speedo before and after...I actually like the look of the white, looks newer (and the light gives off a "blood red" color that matches the boat color really well)! Anyway, installation was as simple as running new jumper wires from the tachometer and made the lights work off the ignition as that's the way it was before, but would have been easy to wire into my lighting circuit. I mounted the antenna vertically (directions say "OK") next to the Quicksilver E-Z Shift on the interior gunwale part (only hole I had to drill was for the SS screw) ran the antenna wire along the harness. I just ordered the rest of the Teleflex Arctic Gauges from Cabelas. Thanks for all the input guys, even though it's not a checkmate, you guys are still helpful and welcoming.

Ciao,

GC

good job, i like the red too.... my deal is i going from a yamaha gauge which is the speed, volt and fuel readings, hopefully i will be able to split existing wires and just add a new fuel and volt gauge,

can anybody verify that this can be done using the existing wire to the Yamaha gauge

Now for the Tachometer

Ok,

I have installed the rest of the Teleflex Arctic Gauges (looks great) however, running this weekend the new tachometer it didn't seem to accurate or to be responding correctly. It's a very basic connection and I know all the connections are correct, my question is: the motor is a 1980 200 Blackmax and the manufacturer said I should set the dial at 6P (poles) for this motor...seems wrong while running...any help?

Thanks in advance.
